A good ending to Zach’s pretty boring season of The Bachelor

We’ve reached the finale of Zach’s season of the Bachelor, which has been one of the most boring seasons ever. It did pick up some electricity during fantasy suites week though. Zach after telling Gabi and Ariel that he wasn’t going have sex in the fantasy suites but then having sex with Gabi. He made matters way worse for himself though after that, by telling it to Kaity at the beginning of her fantasy suite date that he had sex. Zero need to tell her that, not like he had told her prior that he wasn’t going to have sex so why tell her what she didn’t want to hear, but had already assumed?? Stupid. Onto tonight’s finale, he has two ladies remaining, Kaity and Gabi, with a whole new element of drama on what’s been a very slow season until that point. Let’s get into it!

To start off this live three hour finale, it starts in the LA Studios with Ariel on the hot seat to talk to Jesse after getting sent home after fantasy suites. She says she was very hurt that watching it live was the first time that she found out that Zach did have sex in the fantasy suite with Gabi after he had never told her in Thailand. Zach joins Ariel on the hot seat. She asks why she got left in the dark on what happened that week, while Zach told Gabi and Kaity. He admits that he handled it poorly and apologizes. She also points out that by Zach putting sex off the table for the week, that pretty much made it all about sex and made it way more messy and complicated than it should have been. Jesse asks him if he regretted setting that parameter, and Zach absolutely says it was the wrong move. Ariel calls Zach out on that it should have been a decision as a couple, not an executive decision by him. Zach admits his faults there as well. Very mature conversation and Zach admits that he did everything wrong in how he handled fantasy suites week.

Back to Thailand to see the end of Zach’s journey. Gabi is the first to meet Zach’s family. She still has a deep concern that it feels like Zach has some regret about what happened with them and before she meets his family, she has to discuss it with him. After what happened she felt like she was wearing a scarlet letter. Gabi asks Zach to be sure that he’s not associating her with all of his negative feelings and regrets from the prior week. She asks if he regrets the decision that he made with her and he denies it. He reassures her that it’s all good and makes her feel better, so they go meet his family. It all goes great on both sides, with Zach’s dad even telling Gabi about how Zach was very sick when he was born.

After that, we jump right to Kaity meeting Zach’s family. That meeting goes really well too. We didn’t get any of the usual negativity that comes from the family on usually one of the final two, which is such a good thing. Afterwards, Kaity tells Zach that not only is she falling in love with him, she is in love with him.

Onto the final dates of the season. Kaity’s date is first and goes fine.

Coming out of the commercial break for Gabi’s final date, the audio and the closed captioning dropped (on both Hulu and Spectrum, nice job ABC). They go horseback riding on the beach and make out in the water but besides that, no clue what they’re talking about. Cut to another commercial break and it came back working again. Both girls struggle on the final date that the other girl is still there and Zach hasn’t made his decision yet, especially Gabi, who think’s she’s not gonna be the one that Zach picks.

Zach really does seem genuine and he get emotional with Gabi talking about how he’s really trying to think about it and make the best decision. Gabi sums it up perfectly, that no matter which decision Zach makes since he’s falling in love with both her and Kaity, he leaves with a full heart, where one of them leaves heartbroken.

Back to the studio where on the hot seat Sean Lowe and his wife Catherine who he got engaged to at the end of their season. They give their insight on Zach, his season, and what the final two of a season have going through their heads.

Onto Thailand to find out who Zach will choose. Not really a surprise but Gabi’s the first to the final rose, which means that its Kaity that Zach decided. She even does have a sense of humor while also feeling bad for her as she gets out of the van, knowing what’s happening. She steps in mud out of where the van is parked and says “when Kaity arrives and it actually matters, don’t do that to her” which is adorable and heartbreaking all at the same time. Gabi also tells Jesse when he asks her how she’s feeling that she just knows for some reason what is about to happen. She then goes to Zach and knows what’s happening and even tells him that he doesn’t need to tell her. This has to 100% be the most mature and adult breakup of a finale. Gabi handled that so incredibly, wishing him nothing but the best in such a heartbreaking moment for her. She breaks down crying in the car confessional leaving.

Gabi’s on the hot seat in studio. She does a very good job of reflecting on the season and not being chosen by Zach, while also having to deal with the details of the fantasy suite getting broadcast to the whole country because of Zach’s decisions. Zach joins her on the hot seat. She talks about getting blindsided that everything got aired out about the evening portion of their fantasy suite and that she hadn’t even learned that he told everyone at that point until watching it back on TV last week. Completely valid on her part.

Back to Thailand where Zach proposes to Kaity and she of course accepts. Together on the hot seat they’re thrilled to still be together. Pretty good ending to QUITE the boring season of this show but at least the last two episodes were good.

We get a nice break for a few months until Charity’s season of The Bachelorette begins in June.
