Not my best night on the NHL yesterday, going 3-4 to lose 1.64 units, with a big loser on the under in Isles/Canes. Tonight we have four Game 2s with home teams all needing to rebound from losses in Game 1. Let’s get it!
Game 2: Maple Leafs vs. Lightning (7:00)
The Leafs had a huge dud of a game defensively on Tuesday night in Game 1 as Lightning struck seven times, with Tampa scoring a touchdown on the road in Toronto for a 7-3 win to start the series. The Bolts outshot the Leafs 34-31 and slightly outplayed them by an expected goal rate of 3.32-3.2. Toronto has to bounce back with a win tonight at home or they’re going to be bounced in the first round AGAIN. I’ll take the Maple Leafs for a unit tonight along with the alternate over 6 for 1.5 units.
Game 2: Devils vs. Rangers (7:30)
Game 1 on Tuesday night didn’t live up to the hype of this series though as the Rangers got a dominant 5-1 win on the road in Jersey. Besides a penalty shot that Jack Hughes scored on, the Devils were shut out by Igor Shesterkin. Despite the Devils outshooting the Rangers 28-23, New York was the far superior team in the game, outplaying Jersey by an expected goal rate of 3.58-2.69. These teams are much closer in skill level than that game indicated, and I expect the Devils to bounce back from Tuesday night with a big, much-needed win at home tonight and put this series back on track to be competitive and back-and-forth. I’ll take the Devils for a unit tonight. I’d slightly lean the under but not enough to bet it
Game 2: Avalanche vs. Kraken (9:30)
I said going into this series in my preview blog on it that it wouldn’t surprise me if the Kraken hang in it with the defending Cup champs and even though the Avalanche likely win the series they weren’t even close to worth the -315 price. Seattle came out and shocked a lot of people, with a great 3-1 win on the road in Colorado to open the series. The Avs outshot the Kraken 35-30 and outplayed them by an expected goal rate of 3.73-2.33 but couldn’t get the win at home. Seattle was especially fantastic on the rush and in transition. The Avalanche are the better team in this series and although I still think as I said going into this series that Seattle will hang in with them as we saw in Game 1 and make this an entertaining and competitive series, I can’t pass up on the value of Colorado to win the series at -148, which I’ll add for 2 units. Tonight for Game 2, I’ll take the Avs in regulation for 1.5 units. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Game 2: Golden Knights vs. Jets (10:00)
Vegas was pretty terrible in Game 1 at home in the Fortress on Tuesday night, shocking me with a 5-1 blowout loss at home to the Jets. They generated their fewest shots on goal all season (thankfully Eichel hit his 2.5 prop though), getting outshot 31-17 and outplayed by an expected goal rate of 3.7-2.02. Just a terrible game for the Knights, especially offensively. I expect Vegas to bounce back here at home tonight and will take them for 1.5 units in this must win game. I’m also going to go back to the under on this one for a unit on the alternate under 6.
