Four really good hometowns for Charity with a lot of real feelings as her season nears its end and gets serious

This season of The Bachelorette has flown so quick and Charity’s already down to her final four men as she heads into hometowns. I surprisingly have liked this season quite a bit. She’s made good decisions, there hasn’t been much prolonged, unnecessary drama and Charity’s done a great job of following her gut. Let’s dive right in as she meets the families of Joey, Aaron, Dotun, and Xavier.

First up, Charity is in Houston for Aaron’s hometown date. Meeting Aaron’s parents goes well and his mom likes Charity, but then asks her, if Aaron proposed to her today, would she accept. Charity answers probably not, but that it isn’t a reflection of Aaron and that she’s not 100% certain. Fair answer, especially since her relationship with him is the weakest of her four remaining guys. Aaron’s thrilled with his parents’ approval of Charity and it seems like his family is fantastic. After meeting his family, Aaron takes Charity to his high school football field, they sit on the 50 yard line, he gives her a letterman jacket and tells her that he feels like he’s falling in love with her. He makes the cute gesture of playing the first song by Lauren Alaina that they danced to in their first date.

The next stop is Pennsylvania for Joey’s hometown. To start off their date, Joey, the tennis pro, teaches Charity a tennis lesson. Fun date that puts her in his favorite thing in a cute way. Joey’s uncle shows up and in a confessional says that something feels a little off for Joey. They then go meet his whole family. Joey’s sister asks Charity if she feels like she’s falling in love with him and before even telling Joey, Charity responds that she definitely is. Both Joey’s mom and her uncle tell Joey in private that their concern is that he’s not completely being himself and his uncle bluntly puts it to ask him “are you portraying yourself, or are you portraying someone she wants?” Great question to ask. Joey assures him how real it is in that process. Next Charity talks to Joey’s uncle and asks him if he thinks that Joey is in the place of getting married and being a father. He says he thinks Joey will make an amazing husband and father some day, but doesn’t know if he’s quite ready for that yet. He then asks Charity the same thing that he asked Joey, on if she really knows the genuine Joey, which alarms her a bit. Leaving Charity is obviously uncomfortable with how it went and ends up not telling him that she’s falling in love with him like she had planned, instead crying as she’s leaving. Awkward exit.

Xavier’s hometown is next with Charity heading to Cleveland. They start off their date going to a yarn store and they do a knitting class together since knitting is a stress reliever for Xavier. Meeting Xavier’s parents, Charity sees how close Xavier is with his mother, who he went into his research career because of her MS diagnosis. Meeting his family goes fantastic, what they say about seeing Xavier with Charity eases all of Charity’s concerns and makes her feel like he really is ready for an engagement. After their date, Xavier tells Charity that he’s falling in love with her.

Last up is Dotun’s hometown, but because his parents travel to Nigeria every year, the timing doesn’t work out for her to meet them. Charity is upset that she’s unable to meet his parents, but meets his grandma and his siblings. As they all sit down for dinner, Dotun’s parents walk in, very much to the thrill of Dotun and Charity. Following meeting his whole family, Dotun takes Charity to a drive in theatre in a convertible where they watch a video of their baby pictures and them together on this journey. He’s absolutely the front runner and I’d be shocked if it’s not the two of them together at the end of this.

Rose ceremony time with the most stakes there’s been all season. Dotun’s the first to get a rose. Xavier receives the second rose. And with the final rose of the night…

“Joey, will you accept this rose?”

Can’t say I’m that surprised there. She followed her gut and trusted the relationship that had progressed farther despite her concerns from Joey’s hometown. Charity has an emotional goodbye with Aaron, who manages to keep it all together while he’s clearly hurting.

Next week, Charity and her three final men go to Fiji for fantasy suites with just two weeks left in this journey.
