Two weeks ago in the semifinals, my six week streak came to an end on cashing in the PLL, going 1-1 to lose 0.8 units. The Waterdogs and Archers close out the season with a fantastic championship game this weekend!
Archers vs. Waterdogs (9/24 3:00)
We have an awesome championship matchup to close out this PLL season with the defending champion Waterdogs looking to repeat their title against the best team of this season, the Archers, who are making their first ever championship game appearance. The Waterdogs finished the regular season 7-3 this year, and were solid on both ends of the field this season. They averaged 12.9 scores per game, and allowed an average of 11.8. In the first round of the playoffs they knocked off the Whipsnakes with a 15-12 win and then two weeks ago in the semifinals had their best game of the season, dominating the Cannons 17-6 to advance to their second straight PLL Championship. Their offense, led by Michael Sowers (3 goals, 3 assists) was fantastic, but what really impressed me was how Dillon Ward and the Dogs’ defense held the highest-scoring team in the league to just six goals. The Archers had an incredible regular season, earning the first seed in the playoffs with their 8-2 year and getting a bye in the first round of the playoffs as the rest of the league battled it out in Boston. Two weeks ago on Long Island, they got a pretty easy matchup in the semi-final, defeating the Redwoods 14-6 to advance to their first championship game. The results of that game weren’t much of a surprise to me. The Archers were incredible this season on both ends of the field, winning games effortlessly. They had the second-best offense in the league (just slightly behind the Cannons), averaging 13.8 scores per game and the best defense in the PLL, allowing an average of just 11.1 scores per game. These teams played twice this season, splitting their games, both very close matchups decided by just a goal. In Week 7 in Dallas, the Archers got the first win in the season series, winning 19-18. The Waterdogs answered back in the last game of the regular season, a game that didn’t really matter for either team (especially the Archers) based off where they both were in the standings at that point. Regardless though, the Waterdogs got a 14-13 win on Kieran McArdle’s game-winning goal with just five seconds left in regulation after Jack Hannah tied the game up on a two-bomb with just 28 seconds left. That game had an electric fourth quarter, with eleven goals scored including a two-point goal for each team. I feel like this game is a coin flip on who ends up winning, which as a lacrosse fan is really all you can ask for. The books clearly agree, as this game’s a -110 pick ‘em on both sides. I’d slightly lean the Archers get their first chip, but not enough to consider betting it. I’m going to stay off a side in this game. Even though both teams have really solid defenses, I do like the over though, which I’ll take for half a unit. No need to go nuts here.
PS: When the fuck is Rabil going to learn not to have the PLL Championship on NFL Sundays? So fucking stupid.
Bets
