Last night my fun shot on goal parlay hit so despite my regular picks going 0-2, I won a solid 2.67 units. Today we have a gigantic game slate. Let’s crush it!!
Senators vs. Flyers (1:00)
Although they started their season with a win in Columbus and the Sens lost to Carolina, I’m taking Ottawa here at home for half a unit. The Flyers are going to be one of the worst teams in the NHL this season and the Sens will likely compete, yet fall short of a playoff spot. I’d slightly lean the over but not enough to bet it.
Jets vs. Panthers (4:00)
Both of these teams opened their season with losses and even though Florida made it all the way to the Cup last year, catching magic in a bottle, I don’t have very high expectations for either team this year. I’d slightly lean the Panthers and the over, but not enough to bet either, so I’ll stay off this game.
Bruins vs. Predators (7:00)
I think this ends up being a pretty competitive game. I’d lean the Bruins win at home and the under, but not enough to bet on either of them at their prices. I’ll stay off this game completely.
Maple Leafs vs. Wild (7:00)
Both of these teams opened their seasons with wins. The Leafs surprised me that they needed a shootout to win, once again with their defense letting them down, but its still a win to start the year. The Wild meanwhile were fantastic defensively, shutting out the Eastern Conference Champion Panthers. I’d slightly lean the Leafs win this game at home tonight, but no chance am I laying the -166 on them. I’ll skip this one. The total’s a complete coin flip.
Canadiens vs. Blackhawks (7:00)
I think the Habs are the better team in this game, and their offense sure looked good in their opening night shootout loss to the Leafs. They should win at home tonight. The Blackhawks with Bedard seem like they might be a tough team to bet against even though they won’t be great. I’d lean the over but I’d rather just stay off this game.
Red Wings vs. Lightning (7:00)
This should be a pretty fun game tonight. I’d lean the Bolts win it on the road, but I’m not trusting them without Vasilevskiy, at least not yet. I’ll stay off the side but I like the over quite a bit in this game which I’ll take for half a unit.
Penguins vs. Flames (7:00)
Last night the Penguins dominated the Caps with a 4-0 shutout win (loss for me on the over). The Flames looked good too in their opening night win over the Jets. I think Pittsburgh ends up being the better team this season, but I’d lean Calgary wins this one tonight on the road with the Pens in the second half of a back-to-back. Not enough to bet it though. I do like the over though and I’ll take that for half a unit.
Blue Jackets vs. Rangers (7:00)
The Blue Jackets are gonna blow this season again. They couldn’t even beat the Flyers in their season opener, who I think end up being one of the worst teams in the NHL this year. The Rags embarrassed the Sabres on Thursday and I expect a similar result here. I’ll take the Rangers in regulation for a unit.
Islanders vs. Sabres (7:30)
My Sabres really disappointed me on Thursday night as we got embarrassed with a 5-1 loss. Tonight I think we bounce back with a win on the road on Long Island, but I’m not betting this game. Let’s go Sabres!!
Blues vs. Kraken (8:00)
Although I bet against them in their season opener against Vegas on Tuesday, I thought the Kraken would bounce back from that loss in Nashville on Thursday, but they were shut out 3-0 by the Preds. The Blues lost in a 2-1 shootout in Dallas, which was a bit better than I expected. I think this is a get right game for Seattle and I’ll take them for half a unit.
Oilers vs. Canucks (10:00)
These teams opened their season in Vancouver with the Canucks shocking the hockey world with an 8-1 dominant win. I like the Oilers to bounce back here at home and get their revenge. I’ll take their team total over 3.5 for half a unit along with the over in this game for a unit.
Sharks vs. Avalanche (10:00)
Huge mismatch here. The Avs are going to be very good this season and showed that off in their season opener, beating the Kings 5-2. The Sharks on the other hand are going to be one of the worst teams in the NHL this year. I’m doubling up on the Avs here, taking them in regulation and their team total for a unit each.
Vegas Golden Knights vs. Anaheim Ducks (10:00)
This is a gigantic mismatch as shown in the -365 moneyline on Vegas. I broke the game down in depth in my article on StatSalt. Like I said in that article, the Golden Knights blow out the Ducks here. Obviously I’m not going to bet the moneyline and even the regulation line is too expensive at -230. I’ll take the Knights puck line for a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
Los Angeles Kings vs. Carolina Hurricanes (10:30)
I expect this to be a fantastic game to close out the night as I broke down in my article on StatSalt. As I said, I’d lean the Canes and the under in this game, but not enough to bet on either. I do like the under quite a bit, expecting this to be a defensive battle, but at 5.5, I just can’t bet that this early in the year and I’ll stay off it completely.
