I split my two plays last night, going 1-1 for a slight 0.43 unit loss. Today we have an interesting five game NHL slate before a big slate tomorrow.
I’m going to ease it up for the first few weeks. It’s been such an unpredictable first week of the season. No bets over half a unit for a while.
Capitals vs. Flames (7:00)
To me this is a pretty evenly matched game that I don’t have much interest in. I broke it down in depth in my article on StatSalt. As I said in that article, I’d slightly lean the Flames and the under, but not enough to bet on either. I’ll stay off this game entirely.
Maple Leafs vs. Blackhawks (7:00)
The Leafs are 2-0 and after needing to come all the way back against the Habs for a shootout win, they dominate the Wild with a 7-4 win, led by Auston Matthews scoring a hat trick in both of their games. Bedard and the Blackhawks haven’t looked bad but this isn’t a great team. I expect another high scoring win for Toronto here. The moneyline and regulation lines are way to expensive for me, especially with the poor defensive play from the Leafs. I originally liked the team total, but looking at it juiced up at over 4 and the regular line being 4.5, I’d rather just go with the game over here instead at 6.5. I’ll take the over for half a unit.
Devils vs. Panthers (7:00)
This should be a fun game. I expect the Devils to bounce back from their shootout loss to the Yotes on Friday night and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the over in this game but not enough to bet it.
Rangers vs. Coyotes (7:00)
The Rangers completely stunk on Saturday night, losing 5-3 to the Blue Jackets for a big loser for me. Meanwhile the Yotes surprised me with their shootout win over the Devils on the road. I like the Rags here, but don’t think they’re worth betting on against the fiesty Coyotes at -235. Way too expensive. I’ll stay off this game completely.
Blue Jackets vs. Red Wings (7:00)
Even though this isn’t the best matchup, I think this ends up being a fun game to watch. I have two plays here. I expect the Red Wings to win and will take them for half a unit on the road, and I like the over quite a bit, which I’ll take for half a unit as well.
