I split last night’s two NHL games, losing 0.19 units in juice. Onto today’s huge slate featuring 15 games, with all but two teams in action! Let’s crush it!
Senators vs. Red Wings (1:00)
I think these two teams are going to compete for a Wild Card spot in the East this season and I’ve been impressed with their 3-1 starts. I feel like this is a coin flip. I’d give a slight edge to the Sens at home, but not enough to bet it. I do like the over though, which I’ll take for half a unit.
Coyotes vs. Ducks (4:00)
This is a gross matchup at the Mullett. I’d lean the Coyotes win at home and I like the over as well, but neither enough to bet on. I’ll stay off this garbage game (which could actually be pretty fun to watch).
Sabres vs. Islanders (7:00)
We just saw these teams play last week on Long Island, with the Islanders winning 3-2 in a close game. I thought the Sabres played well in that matchup but I’m not really sold on my team with this lousy 1-3 start to the season. I don’t think the Isles are all that great either. I’d lean my boys get the win here tonight at home but I’m not betting this game. Let’s Go Buffalo!
Canadiens vs. Capitals (7:00)
I don’t love either of these teams this season and I expect them to both miss the playoffs. I’d slightly lean the Habs win at home here and the over, but I’m not touching this matchup.
Lightning vs. Maple Leafs (7:00)
This should be a very fun game between these two teams that faced each other in the first round of the playoffs the last two years in a row. I think especially without Vasilevskiy, the Leafs are the better team in this matchup and I’ll take them for half a unit to bounce back from their last two losses. I also like the over, and I’ll take the alternate over 6.5 for half a unit as well.
Panthers vs. Canucks (7:00)
Both of these teams are hard to figure out for me and their starts to the season make it even more confusing. I’d lean the defending Eastern Conference Champions, who I’m not really sold on since I think they more so caught magic in a bottle last season, win this game at home but I’m definitely not betting it. I do like the over though and I’ll take it for half a unit.
Blues vs. Penguins (8:00)
I broke this game down in depth in my article on StatSalt last night. Like I said in that article, I think this is a pretty big mismatch and really like the Pens to win this one, with some nice value on them on the road to bounce back from their 6-3 loss win Detroit on Wednesday. I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet on it.
Stars vs. Flyers (8:00)
The Stars are the far better team in this matchup, as I broke down in depth in my article on StatSalt. Even though the Flyers have had an impressive 3-1 start. The moneyline is too expensive for me on this game, but I’ll take the Stars in regulation for half a unit. I’d lean the under but not enough to bet it.
Blackhawks vs. Golden Knights (8:00)
Big mismatch here and Bedard and the Blackhawks don’t have anything on the defending Stanley Cup Champions, who have the best start in franchise history with a 5-0 record. This should be an easy win for VGK on the road and I’ll take them in regulation for a unit.
Predators vs. Sharks (8:00)
The Sharks are the worst team in the NHL. Although I don’t expect the Preds to be a great team, they should get the win at home here without too much of a sweat. I’ll take them in regulation for half a unit. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Wild vs. Blue Jackets (8:00)
This is another pretty big mismatch in the 8:00 slate. I think the Wild are a pretty solid team and like them to win at home here against a lousy Jackets lineup and I’ll take them in regulation for half a unit. I’d lean the under here but with how bad the Columbus defense could be, I’d rather stay off the total.
Avalanche vs. Hurricanes (9:00)
This is by far the best game on tonight’s slate and could potentially be a very early preview of the Stanley Cup Finals, as I expect both of these teams to be in the Conference Finals. I’d lean the Avs win at home and the under in this game, but I’ll stay off it, sit back and just watch some fantastic hockey here.
Oilers vs. Jets (10:00)
It’s shocking to me that in their 1-3 start to the season the thing that’s been killing the Oilers has been the inability of their elite offense to score. They’re generating solid chances and just not getting it done. That has to flip eventually. Against a poor Jets team at home, I think they get right here with a win and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but I’m not betting it at 7 goals and don’t like it enough to buy it down with heavy juice.
Kraken vs. Rangers (10:00)
The Kraken finally got out of their offensive slump with their first win of the season pulling off a huge 7-4 win over the really good Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night. I think this ends up being a competitive cross-conference game. I’d lean the Rangers win on the road and the over, but not enough to bet on either, so I’ll stay off this game.
Kings vs. Bruins (10:30)
Really fun matchup to end the night. I feel like this is pretty close to a coin flip. I’d lean the Kings win at home and the over, but not enough to bet on either. Should be a fun game to watch!
