Last night with just one NHL game, I lost my only play, losing 1.49 units. Tonight we have a pretty big eleven game slate. Let’s bounce back.
Red Wings vs. Jets (7:00)
This is an interesting matchup that I broke down in depth in my article on StatSalt. Detroit’s offense has been fantastic through their first seven games of the season and I’d lean the Red Wings bounce back from their OT 5-4 loss to the Kraken on Tuesday. I’d also lean the over, but not enough to bet on either, so I’ll lay off this game.
Lightning vs. Sharks (7:00)
This is a huge mismatch and although I’m not sold on the Bolts this year, the Sharks are easily the worst team in the NHL this season and I’m going to keep betting against them. I broke this game down in depth in my article on StatSalt. The moneyline is way too expensive at -298, but I’ll take the Bolts to get it done in regulation for a unit. I’d lean the over but don’t quite trust the Sharks to score, so I’ll just stick with Tampa here.
Bruins vs. Ducks (7:00)
Huge mismatch here as evidenced by the -325 moneyline on the B’s. Although I expected them to be significantly worse than last year, they’re 6-0 to start the year. The Ducks are a pretty bad team and in the first game between these teams on Sunday in Anaheim, it took until the third period for the first goal of the game and the B’s ended up winning 3-1. I’d expect another win for them. The moneyline at -325 is way too expensive for me but I’ll lay the -190 on them in regulation for half a unit. I’d slightly lean the under but not enough to bet it.
Canadiens vs. Blue Jackets (7:00)
I’m not sold on either of these teams and this is a pretty lousy matchup to me. I’d lean the Habs and the over in this matchup but not enough to bet on either, so I’ll lay off this game completely.
Penguins vs. Avalanche (7:00)
It is still so early in the season but I think the Avs could win the Cup and fully expect to see them face Vegas in the Western Conference Finals with the winner of that series going on to lift the Cup. The Pens haven’t been great in their start to the year. I expect the Avs to advance to 7-0 on the season with a road win tonight and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the over but not enough to bet it.
Hurricanes vs. Kraken (7:00)
I’m kind of shocked by how much the Canes defense has struggles so far through their 3-4 start to the season and a bit surprised by the slow start for the Kraken offense. I’d expect Carolina to win this game at home but I don’t think they’re worth laying the juice on at -200. I’ll stay off this game. I do expect Carolina to get right and they’re still my pick to win the Eastern Conference, but I’m not betting on them till they figure it out.
Flyers vs. Wild (7:30)
I’d lean the Wild win this game but the Flyers have been better than I’ve expected through their 3-2-1 start to the season. I’d slightly lean the over but don’t see any value in it. I’ll lay off this matchup
Islanders vs. Senators (7:30)
This game is kind of a coin flip to me and I don’t have any lean on either the side or the total. I’ll skip this matchup and don’t particularly care about the result of it.
Stars vs. Maple Leafs (8:00)
This is easily the best game on tonight’s slate and I expect it to be an awesome matchup. I’d lean the Leafs win on the road and the over in this game but I’ll stay off of it. I’ll like tune into this game and watch it on the third TV while I watch the Bills game.
Flames vs. Blues (9:00)
Neither of these teams are great. I’d lean the Flames win since they have a better, much deeper roster, but I just don’t think the price is worth betting on them here at -190. I’d slightly lean the under but not enough to bet on that either.
Oilers vs. Rangers (9:00)
The Oilers are off to an awful start to the season with a 1-4-1 record. Although even without Connor McDavid in the lineup, they seemed to fix their offensive problems in Minnesota, scoring 4 goals in that loss, but they sucked defensively, allowing seven goals. This team has issues that they need to figure out. I’m not sold on the Rangers yet but they’ve been decent in their 4-2 start to the year. I think the Oilers are the better team but no shot I’m betting on them. I’ll stay off this game. I’d slightly lean the over but not enough to bet on it.
