The most emotional good bye of The Golden Bachelor on the way to hometowns

Since the Bills game aired on ABC here in Buffalo last night, I had to wait till this week’s episode of The Golden Bachelor came out on Hulu today to watch it rather than immediately after the game ended. I avoided spoilers and it’s time to dive into this week’s episode as there’s only six women left and three roses to go around with hometowns coming up, rather than the usual four.

Faith gets the one on one date of the week. Her and Gerry go flying in a helicopter over the mansion and LA. Pretty awesome date. The helicopter lands on a yacht for their date to continue. On that part of the date, Faith opens up to Gerry about her life and her past, which he really appreciates. With the first date that unlocks hometowns…

“will you accept this rose?”

I really do love the vulnerability and the honesty that Gerry and these ladies have without any of the games. When she gets back, the other ladies aren’t all that thrilled to hear about the date.

The final group date with the other five ladies is at the Santa Monica Pier amusement park. The women have fun on the date with Gerry. During the one on one talks, Theresa is first to talk to Gerry and she tells him that she’s falling in love with him. The lady struggling the most this week is Leslie, who opens up about those feelings to Gerry and tells him about how seeing him going on the other dates shook her up. He comforts her and she tells him that she’s falling in love with him. Ellen I think clearly has the strongest feelings for Gerry of the six ladies. He doesn’t give any of the ladies a rose during the group date and defers that rose to the following night’s rose ceremony.

Onto the rose ceremony to find out which other two ladies will be going on to hometowns with Gerry. With the first rose,

“Leslie, will you accept this rose”.

I thought the first rose would go to Ellen, but I’m not really surprised that Leslie received it. And with the final rose of the night…

“Theresa, will you accept this rose?”

I was kind of shocked by that decision. I thought for sure that final rose was going to Ellen. I’m not really surprised that Sandra and Susan got sent home. Both great ladies who really exemplified how well these shows can go when you take out all of the drama. Especially Susan was fantastic in the way she supported every other lady in the house while her connection with Gerry wasn’t as strong. Finally Gerry emotionally walks Ellen out. Clearly this was the most difficult decision that Gerry has made the entire series. Sad goodbye and you can see as she leaves how real her emotions and feelings for Gerry really were.
