Happy Halloween! I had a profitable night on yesterday’s big NHL slate, going 4-2 to win 0.77 units. It had the potential to be fantastic but Vegas needed a shootout to close out the night. Tonight we have just two games on the slate, let’s make it two winning nights in a row!
Maple Leafs vs. Kings (8:00)
Tonight we have a fantastic cross-conference matchup between two very good teams as the 5-2-1 Toronto Maple Leafs host the 4-2-2 Los Angeles Kings. Both of these teams are off to hot starts to their years but come into tonight’s game off overtime losses. These teams split their games last year, both winning on the road with a 4-2 Kings win in Toronto and then a 5-0 shutout win for the Leafs in LA. I broke this game down in depth with my article on StatSalt. As I said in that article, I’d lean the Leafs win this game at home, giving them a slight edge defensively in their start to the year, but not enough to bet it. I really like the over in this matchup with the offenses for both of these teams being very good to start the year. The Kings offense has been phenomenal to start the season, leading the NHL in scoring, averaging 4.38 goals per game on an average of 33 shots per game. They’ve generated the second-most expected goals per 60 minutes (3.8) and the most high-danger shots in the league. The Leafs offense has been great too, scoring an average of 3.5 goals per game, the eleventh-most in the NHL, on an average of 33.6 shots per game. They’ve generated the fifth-most expected goals per 60 minutes (3.66) and the second-most high-danger shots in the league. I expect both teams to score several goals in this game to put it over the 6.5. I’ll take the over for a unit.
Canucks vs. Predators (10:00)
This should be a fun game. Both of these teams have had decent starts to their seasons, but I’m not completely sold on either of them being all that good. These teams just played last week in Nashville with the Canucks winning 3-2. I’d expect they win again at home and I’ll take them for half a unit. I also like the under with Demko vs. Saros, which I’ll take for half a unit as well.
