Losing day for me yesterday, going 2-3 to lose 2.16 units. Not great. Today we have an early start to a huge 13 game NHL slate with a handful of day games. Let’s start off hot and bounce back big today!
Senators vs. Wild (11:00 AM)
We start off way earlier than usual today (although tomorrow’s start at 8am is even worse) at 11 AM as the NHL Global Series continues in Sweden. The Wild haven’t been great this year, on a three game losing streak. On Friday afternoon against the Red Wings in Sweden, the Sens got their third win in their last four games with a 5-4 overtime win. They blew a 4-0 lead and then got the winner in OT. I hit my over easily on that game and for the third day in a row on the Sweden games, I’ll go right back to the over here this morning for a unit (which I boosted with a bonus I had to wipe out the juice). I’d lean the Sens win, but not quite enough to bet it.
Flyers vs. Golden Knights (1:00)
Jack Eichel, Mark Stone, and the Knights came through big for me on Thursday night late in their game against the Habs, winning 6-5 inside regulation. Vegas is still the best team in the league in my eyes and they have an interesting matchup this afternoon against Philly. The Flyers have been up and down this season. They come into tonight on a surprising three game win streak on the road. I still think the Golden Knights are the way better team here and I’ll take them for a unit. I’d slightly lean the under, but I’m not betting it.
Predators vs. Blackhawks (2:00)
This matchup stinks to me. I don’t think either of these teams are great, but they’re not terrible. I’d lean the Preds win at home in this matchup, but I don’t think they’re worth betting on with the heavy -190 price. I like the over though, especially with the total at just 6, which I’ll take for half a unit.
Lightning vs. Oilers (4:00)
This is such a fun game. After losing to the Sharks, the Oilers have picked up their game, coming into today’s day game on a three game win streak, after Evander Kane’s natty hatty to win on Wednesday night, beating the Kraken 4-3 in overtime. The Bolts got out of their slump with a 4-2 win against the Blackhawks on Thursday, ending their three game losing streak. I’d lean the Oilers win this game, but I’m not sold enough on either of these teams to bet this game. I’d slightly lean the over too, but not enough to bet that either, so I’ll stay off this game completely.
Bruins vs. Canadiens (7:00)
This is a huge mismatch in the Atlantic tonight. The Bruins have been phenomenal this year. The Habs are in a three game slump right now, coming off a 6-5 loss at home to Vegas late in their game on Thursday. In the first game between these teams a week ago, Montreal got a 3-2 overtime win, pulling off the upset at home. I fully expect the B’s to answer back with a win at home tonight. The moneyline at -265 is too expensive but I’ll take Boston in regulation for 1.5 units. I’d lean the under but not enough to bet it.
Devils vs. Rangers (7:00)
I anticipate this being a fun rematch of last year’s second round series between these Metro Division rivals. The Devils picked up a big 5-2 win in Pittsburgh on Thursday (loss for me) and they’re supposed to Jack Hughes back in the lineup. The Rangers have been on fire this year, coming into tonight on a three game win streak and a ten game point streak. I’d lean the Rangers win this one and would slightly lean the over, but not enough to bet on either. I’ll stay off this game completely.
Hurricanes vs. Penguins (7:00)
This should be a fantastic game tonight in the Metro. Both of these teams have played well and they’re both coming off losses. I’d give a slight lean to the Penguins here, but it’s not strong enough for me to bet on it in what’s just too close of a matchup to me.
Jets vs. Coyotes (7:00)
Interesting matchup here in the Central. Last night the Jets pulled out the win at home, getting the puck luck as they got out played and outshot by the Sabres, but still beat Buffalo 3-2. The Coyotes have played well, being a pain in the ass for their opponents every night. The first time these teams played this year, the Jets won 5-3 at the Mullett. I’d slightly lean they win again but not enough for me to bet on them in the second half of a back to back tonight. I do like the over though, especially with the back to back and that Laurent Brossoit is confirmed in goal for Winnipeg since Hellebuyck started last night, and I’ll take the alternate over 6 for a unit.
Flames vs. Islanders (7:00)
This cross-conference match up sucks. I’d slightly lean the Flames win this one at home and would slightly lean the under, but I’m not betting this matchup. You don’t make money betting on sub-par teams to beat other sub-par teams.
Capitals vs. Blue Jackets (7:30)
This matchup isn’t great. Ovi and the Capitals have really impressed me this year. I didn’t expect much out of this team but they’re in second in the Metro, rolling into tonight on a three game win streak with a 7-1-1 record in their last nine games. The Jackets stink, on a seven game losing streak with just one win in their last twelve games. I’ll take the Caps for 1.5 units.
Stars vs. Avalanche (8:00)
I’m expecting this to be an awesome matchup in the Central Division between the two teams that are the clear favorites to win the Division and both very good teams. I’d slightly lean the Stars win here at home and the over, but this isn’t a game worth betting on to me. This should be a fantastic game and pretty much a coin flip to me.
Canucks vs. Kraken (10:00)
This is a fun matchup in the Pacific. In the second half of a back to back on Thursday the Canucks let me down losing 5-2 in Calgary. They’ve been awesome this season though and far exceeded my expectations. The Kraken have been a disappointment but are coming off a 4-3 shootout win over the Isles that ended their three game losing streak. I like Vancouver to win here tonight at home and I’ll take them for a unit. I like the over too, and I’ll take the alternate over 6 for half a unit.
Kings vs. Blues (10:30)
This is a big mismatch to me. The Blues let me down big time on Thursday night, getting crumbled 5-1 by the Sharks. I don’t regret those bets by any means. I’m going to keep hammering whoever plays SJ every night. That said, the Kings have been awesome this year. I like them to win at home and I’ll take them in regulation for a unit.
