Winning day on the NHL for me yesterday to bounce back from Thursday and Friday, going 5-3-1 to win 1.25 units. We have way too early of a start in the morning, which is why this blog’s up so late at night. Let’s win again!
Wild vs. Maple Lafs (8:00 AM)
The NHL Global Series in Stockholm, Sweden concludes this morning as the Leafs and the Wild play the fourth game overseas this season. I’m kind of annoyed that they decided to make this one a day game there, that makes this 8 in the morning here, but whatever, I’ll write this blog at night and not have to worry about getting it published in the morning. Yesterday morning the Wild and Sens put on a solid battle for the people of Stockholm, as Minnesota went on to lose 2-1 in a shootout, extending their losing streak to four in a row. On Friday afternoon, although I took a big loss on the over coming up short, the Leafs came up nicely for me, coming all the way back from a 2-0 deficit in the third period to beat the Red Wings 3-2. The first time these teams play the Leafs dominated with a 7-4 win. I like Toronto to start the day off with a win here and I’ll take them for 1.5 units. I like the over as well so for the fourth day in a row in Sweden, I’ll take the over for a unit.
Flyers vs. Blue Jackets (5:30)
The Flyers keep surprising me and yesterday they extended their win streak to four straight wins with a 4-3 upset over the Golden Knights. They’ve far exceeded my expectations this season. They face a pretty easy matchup tonight against the Blue Jackets, who after their 4-3 loss to the Caps (win for me), who are on an eight game losing streak with just one win in their last 13 games. This should be an easy win for Philly at home, and I’ll take them for a unit.
Penguins vs. Golden Knights (6:00)
This should be a fun cross-conference game. Both of these teams have been good this season and they’re both coming off losses yesterday, with the Golden Knights losing to the Flyers and the Pens losing to the Hurricanes. I’d lean Vegas wins this game, but with this being on the road and in the second half of a back to back, I don’t quite like it enough to bet on. I’d slightly lean the under, but wouldn’t bet that either. I’ll stay off this game entirely.
Blackhawks vs. Sabres (7:00)
As much as I’d love this to be a great game, I don’t see this as a fantastic matchup by any means, and since I’m going to see KFC Radio do a live podcast tonight (Viva la Stool), I’m not really upset that I’m going to miss this game. The Sabres played well in their 3-2 loss to the Jets on Friday night, and I like them to get a win here to end our three game losing streak, especially with the Blackhawks in the second half of a back to back. They’re coming off a 4-2 loss to the Preds yesterday that extended their losing streak to three in a row. I’ll take my Sabres for a unit along with the over for half a unit.
Ducks vs. Blues (8:00)
This is a pretty lousy matchup to close out Sunday night. The Ducks are coming off two losses in a row, coming off an 8-2 loss in Colorado on Wednesday followed by a 2-1 loss at home to the Panthers on Friday. They’ve played well this season so far, and I think this franchise has the most potential to be good in the future. They’re not quite there yet but this is a solid, mid-tier team that will continue to get better. The Blues have been better than I expected but they’re coming off back to back losses, losing 5-1 to the Sharks (big loser for me) and then lost 5-1 to the Kings last night. With the Blues on the second half of a back to back on the road, I like the Ducks to win here and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the over but not enough to bet it.
