Tonight the Sabres pulled off a real nice comeback, coming back from a 2-0 deficit against the Penguins going into the third period, winning 3-2 on Alex Tuch’s game winner.

Sid the “kid” opened the scoring first jumping on the puck and simply ripped the puck past UPL to get the first goal of the game and give the Pens a 1-0 lead with 3:14 left in the first period. Not too bad of a period as both teams were even with eleven shots each and both got their share of chances, but we go into the first intermission down a goal.

The Penguins picked up a 2-0 lead with 3:16 left in the second period with a turnover by Dahlin at his own red line with Matt Nieto stealing the puck, getting it to Lars Eller with a nice top shelf shot past UPL with no defense on him. Not a great first period for the Sabres, getting not much going offensively and going down two goals.

With Evgeni Malkin in the box, Kris Letang gave up up a turnover that Jeff Skinner picked off and put past Nedeljkovic to put the Sabres on the board on the power play 5:13 into the third. With a little bit of luck on their side, the Captain, Kyle Okposo got his first goal of the season, tying the game up a 2 with his low angle shot getting tipped by a Pens defenseman into the back of the net to tie the game with 8:58 left in regulation. Alex Tuch gave the Sabres the lead with 2:44 left in regulation with Tuch in the perfect spot and tipping in Skinner’s pass to get on top for the first time all game.

Really nice comeback for the Sabres. Although the whole game was pretty even and we outshot the Pens 34-33, we picked it up big time in the third period and had a great final 20 minutes of the game to get the win. We outplayed the Pens by an expected goal rate of 4.1-2.83 to get back in the win column.

Huge win. Let’s Go Buffalo!
