Another brutal night for me on the NHL yesterday, going 4-8 to lose 10.14 units, another night of the Sharks ruining the slate with a win. Unreal how many posts the Caps hit that didn’t go in and even more unreal that three days in the season essentially have swung me in this much of a hole. Thanks San Jose. Tonight we have a ten game slate, let’s get right.
I’m going to cut down on the sizing of my bets for a bit after the bad Friday, Saturday, and yesterday. It’s still too early in the year for me to regularly hammering teams, even when they’re playing against San Jose. I’ve pretty much lost three “game of the year” games in the span of five days. Can’t sustain that and expect to be profitable on the year.
No video today since I don’t actually have any picks and I’m just evaluating my leans on every game. Never a bad idea in a slump to do that.
Maple Leafs vs. Panthers (7:00)
This should be a fun game in the second rematch of the year from last year’s . The Leafs are on a two game skid and the Panthers are coming off a heated 5-0 win in the Tkachuk bowl in Ottawa last night. Florida won the first matchup between these season this season, winning 3-1. I’d lean the Leafs win this game with the Panthers in the second half of a back to back, but not enough to bet them in the slump I’m in. I’d lean the over, but Florida keeps trending under, so I’ll stay off it.
Devils vs. Islanders (7:00)
I’d lean the Devils and the over in this game but not enough to bet on either. The Isles are playing well and other than the blowout win against the Sabres, the Devils are in a bit of a slump. They won the first game between these teams 5-4 in overtime on the road. I’d lean they win again tonight at home, but I’m not betting it at the -165 price. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it. Pretty much a coin flip to me.
Flyers vs. Hurricanes (7:30)
These teams split their first two games, each winning on the road, a 3-2 Canes win in Philly and a 3-1 Flyers win in Carolina. The Flyers have been much better than my expectations for them this season. The Canes have under exceeded my expectations but got me a great comeback win in the third period of their game against Columbus on Sunday. I’d expect the Canes to win this game tonight, but I’m not betting it. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet that either.
Predators vs. Penguins (8:00)
This should be an awesome game tonight. The Penguins, although coming off a 3-2 win against the Leafs on Saturday, have been on a bit of a slump. The Preds while having their up and downs so far this season, come into tonight’s game on a five game win streak. I feel like the Pens are the better team, but with the run Nashville is on, I’m staying off this one. I’d slightly lean the over.
Wild vs. Blues (8:00)
This matchup kind of sucks. The Wild fired Dean Evason yesterday with the lousy 5-10-4 start to their season. I don’t think its necessarily his fault with how much money in dead cap space Minnesota has, but obviously they’re struggling on a seven game losing streak with just two wins in their last 13 games. I expected the Blues to be horrible, but they’ve been a pretty mid tier team. I do think Minnesota is the better team here and the new coach thing definitely throws a loop in this game. I’d lean the over, but I’ll stay off this game entirely.
Jets vs. Stars (8:00)
This should be a great game tonight. The Stars are in a little bit of a slump lately with just one win in their last four games, but they’ve been one of the best teams in the league this season. I didn’t have much expectations for the Jets going into this season but they’ve been shockingly good. With a 3-2 loss in Smashville on Sunday, the Jets had their five game win streak come to an end with just their second loss in their last ten games. I’d lean the Jets win this one and would lean the under, but I’m not betting it.
Blackhawks vs. Kraken (8:30)
Not a great game here. The Blackhawks suck and just waived their second best player in Corey Perry for “reasons detrimental to the team”. Chicago once again not staying out of their own way. The Kraken haven’t been great either this season. Seattle’s the better team in this game and I’d expect them to win tonight, but I’m not laying the -190. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet that either.
Oilers vs. Golden Knights (9:00)
A lot of people would have picked this game to be their matchup for the Western Conference Finals this year. The Oilers have shown dominate wins in their last two games after being complete dog shit to start the year off. The Golden Knights started the season setting a record for the hottest start of a Cup winner. They’ve since cooled off and after 2-1 overtime loss to the Flames last night, they’ve only gotten three wins in their last ten games. The Cup hangover hit Vegas a month late. The Knights are the better team here but in their slump and in the second half of back to back, I’d lean the Oilers bet this game. I’m staying off tonight’s slate, but even if I wasn’t I wouldn’t touch this game. I’d slightly lean the over.
Coyotes vs. Lightning (9:00)
This could be a sneaky good game. The Bolts are coming off a 4-1 loss in Colorado last night, but have played pretty well lately. The Coyotes ended a three game losing streak with a 2-0 win in Vegas on Saturday. They’re a pain in the ass to play against. I’d lean the Lightning bounce back with a win on the road tonight, but wouldn’t bet this with them on the second half of a back to back.
Canucks vs. Ducks (10:00)
Easily the biggest mismatch on the slate and the -270 price on Vancouver reflects that pretty clearly. The Ducks, coming off an 8-2 embarrassment to the Oilers on Sunday, are on a six game losing streak and have just two wins in their last ten games, one of which was against the Sharks. The Canucks killed me with a 4-3 loss to the Sharks on Saturday night and have just two wins in their last six games after their great start to the year. This is a big time bounce back spot to me, and my lean on it would be Vancouver in regulation, but I’m not betting it. I’d also lean the over.
Game Bets
I’m staying off the whole slate tonight. Look at my leans if you want to bet this slate. I need a day off after Friday, Saturday and Monday’s losses…which pretty much guarantees that all my leans are going to fucking crush it and I won’t make a penny, that’s how the cookie crumbles. It’s never a bad idea to take a day off and evaluate how you see the board.
