I feel like I was on the right side of both games I bet yesterday, but went 0-2, losing 1.24 units. We have a giant NHL slate tonight with 14 games, let’s get some wins rolling in to get out of this slump.
Didn’t have time for video today. Check the blog for all my picks!
Bruins vs. Sharks (7:00)
This is the biggest mismatch of the season with the Bruins as astounding -550 favorites. Their in a slump right now and the Sharks have screwed me big time twice in a row with their wins against the Caps and Canucks, both that I hammered them against. The first time these teams played in San Jose this season, the Bruins won 3-1. I know this game is going to result in a Boston blowout win but with these prices I can’t find any value anywhere on alt lines or anything. I’ll just skip this game. Watch the B’s win 5-1.
Maple Leafs vs. Kraken (7:00)
I don’t expect this to be a great game. The Kraken have been pretty lousy this season. The Leafs had a wild finish to their game against Panthers on Tuesday, with the shootout winner getting disallowed, the players being called back on the ice and then the Leafs winning 2-1 in a shootout to bounce back from their two losses. I like the Leafs to win this one and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
Canadiens vs. Panthers (7:00)
The Panthers, coming off their crazy shootout loss (that they had previously won) against the Leafs on Tuesday, are in a bit of a slump, with just one win in their last five games. They’ve been great this season though. The Habs have been pretty lousy but have three wins in their last four games, all against shitty opponents. I like the Panthers to win this one pretty easy on the road and I’ll take them in regulation for a unit. I’d slightly lean the under but definitely not enough to bet on it.
Red Wings vs. Blackhawks (7:00)
Both of these teams made headlines this week in the NHL, with the Blackhawks having to deal with the Corey Perry situation while the Red Wings signed Patrick Kane (who should make his debut next week), reuniting him with Alex DeBrincat). I like Detroit to win this game pretty easily at home and I’ll take them in regulation for a unit. I’d slightly lean the over but I’ll just stick with the Red Wings on this one.
Lightning vs. Penguins (7:00)
This should be a really fun game tonight. I’d lean the Bolts win this one and would slightly lean the under, but I don’t see enough of an edge in either direction to bet on this game, so I’ll stay off it entirely.
Flyers vs. Devils (7:00)
Neither of these Metro Division teams have been all that impressive to me lately while having played solid hockey at points this year. The Devils should get a win here on the road in their short trip to Philly, but I don’t think they’re worth betting on with how they’ve played outside of their last two games. I’ll stay off this one. I’d lean the over, but the Flyers have trended under with a lousy offense and a decent defense, so I’ll lay off this game entirely.
Hurricanes vs. Islanders (7:30)
The first game between these teams went to overtime earlier this month with the Canes winning 4-3 on Long Island. I expect this game to be an easier win for them at home and I’ll take them in regulation for half a unit. Carolina’s played way better hockey lately and have looked a lot more like the way I expected them to going into the season, thinking they’d be the winner of the East. I don’t really have a lean on either end of the total in this one.
Blues vs. Sabres (8:00)
This should be a pretty fun game for my boys tonight coming off one of their best games of the year, beating the Rangers 5-1 on Monday. Outside of that win, they haven’t been great. The Blues have exceeded my expectations a bit, but still aren’t a great team this season. I’d lean my Sabres get a win here and the over hits in this game, but I’d rather just stay off this game and watch my team. Let’s Go Sabres!
Predators vs. Wild (8:00)
Not the best matchup here. The Preds are on fire, coming into tonight’s game on a six game winning streak while the Wild just ended their terrible seven game losing streak with just their third win in their last 14 games with a 3-1 win against the Blues on Tuesday after they fired head coach Dean Evason for their terribly slow start to the year. I like Smashville to win here tonight and I’ll take them for half a unit.
Jets vs. Oilers (8:00)
This should be a really fun Canadian Western Conference matchup. The Jets have been fantastic this season, but they’re coming off two losses in a row after a 2-0 shutout loss to the Stars on Tuesday. Winnipeg’s far exceeded my expectations this year. The Oilers had a terrible start to their year but after their 5-4 shootout win over the Knights on Tuesday, they’re on a three game win streak. The first game between these teams in Edmonton was a 3-2 overtime win for the Jets in October. I like the Jets to win this one and I think there’s solid value to them as a home dog and I’ll take them for half a unit.
Flames vs. Stars (9:00)
Pretty interesting game here. The Stars have been a very good team this season and although they’re coming off an impressive 2-0 win in Winnipeg on Saturday, they’ve been in a mini slump with one win in their last five games. I still don’t think the Flames are a good team although they have played better lately. I completely expect the Stars to win here and I’ll take them for a unit. I feel like the total is a coin flip.
Coyotes vs. Avalanche (9:00)
The Coyotes, coming into tonight’s game with two wins against two good teams against the Lightning and Knights in their last two games, have been a decent team and a pain for teams to play against. They don’t have a great matchup tonight though against the Avs, who are on a four game win streak and have been fantastic this season with 15-6 record. I like them to win pretty easily here and I’ll take them in regulation for a unit. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Canucks vs. Golden Knights (10:00)
Phenomenal matchup in the Pacific here. The Golden Knights are my pick still to defend and win the Cup again this year but they’re in a huge slump right now with the Vegas flu and Stanley Cup hangover hitting the champs a month late after their historic start to the season. The Canucks have been far exceeding my expectations this year but have been a bit up and down in their last few games. I feel like Vegas is the better team here, but I also think the Canucks win at home tonight. I’ll lay off this game completely. I’d also slightly lead the under, but I’m not betting that either. This is easily the best game on the slate tonight.
Ducks vs. Capitals (10:00)
The Caps have let me down their last three games in a row. I lost big time on their 5-0 shutout loss to the Oilers on Friday, got killed on their 2-1 loss to the Sharks, and then I flipped the script and bet against them last night on the road against the Kings, and they found a way to win 2-1 despite getting outshot 39-15. The Ducks have been terrible lately, on a seven game losing streak after a 3-1 loss in Vancouver on Tuesday. I’d expect the Caps to win here but I’m not betting this matchup with how I keep striking out on Capitals games lately and with them on the second half of a back-to-back, I’ll stay off this game completely.
