I wasn’t terrible on the NHL last night, going 7-4, but ended the night losing 0.78 units as the Avs let me down big, blowing a 3-1 first period lead and going on to lose 4-3 in shootout, losing my biggest play of the day. Let’s win it back on today’s five game Sunday slate.
Wild vs. Blackhawks (2:00)
This is a pretty shitty matchup to start the day and the price on it really doesn’t make sense to me. Both of these teams are bad. The Wild have won their last two games in a row after firing Dean Evason, coming off a big 6-1 win in Nashville on Thursday night. The Blackhawks have been bad, coming off a 3-1 loss on the road in Winnipeg. I’d definitely expect the Wild to win this game at home, but the price on it is astounding to me at -300. I know that Chicago’s a mess and they’re in the second half of a back to back, but this game should be around like -180 in my opinion. I considered taking the +250 on the Blackhawks and even thought about the +2.5 on them, which I think are both pretty good value, but the best play on this game is none at all. I’ll stay off it entirely.
Rangers vs. Sharks (6:00)
This is one of the biggest mismatches of the year. The Rangers are one of the best teams in the NHL this season, fantastic on both ends of the ice. They came through last night, giving me the win with their comeback against the Preds, coming back from a 3-1 deficit to win 4-3 on the road. The Sharks are historically one of the worst teams in history this season. Somehow though, San Jose has won three of their last four games. I don’t expect that to happen tonight by any means. The prices on this game are ridiculous, but there’s a few spots I see some good value. I’ll take the Rangers puck line for a unit. My initial thought I loved was the Sharks team total under 2.5, but that’s at -230, which is too pricy for me and I don’t really like the under 1.5 with the Rags on the second half of a back to back, so I’ll just stick to the puck line here.
Sabres vs. Predators (7:00)
Not a great game for my boys here at home tonight. Last night the Sabres got completely embarrassed in Carolina, losing 6-2. Glad I at least cashed in on that one betting the Canes, easy win. This team fucking stinks and as a fan it’s miserable to watch games where when we went into this season the expectation was to make the playoffs. They’ve regressed from last year which has been such a disappointment to watch this year. The Predators have exceeded my expectations this year but they’re not a spectacular team this year. They’re coming off two losses in a row after a 4-3 loss to the Rangers at home yesterday. I still like the Preds to win tonight and I’ll bet against my boys with half a unit on Nashville. I like the over too, and I’ll take the alternate over 6 for a unit.
Bruins vs. Blue Jackets (7:00)
Not the best matchup here. Last night the Bruins blew a 2-0 lead and then after giving up the game tying goal with six seconds left in regulation, got the 4-3 win in overtime over the Leafs. They’ve been very good this season on both ends of the ice. The Blue Jackets have played better lately, but they’re still not a good team. I like the Bruins to win this one at home at the Garden, even in the second half of a back to back, and I’ll take them in regulation for a unit.
Kings vs. Avalanche (8:00)
Phenomenal matchup to close out the night. I lost on both of these teams in their last game. Last night the Avs blew a 3-1 first period lead, going on to lost 4-3 in a shootout in Anaheim, losing my biggest bet of the day. The Kings on Friday outshot the Caps 39-15, but couldn’t solve Charlie Lindgren, losing 2-1 at home. In the first game between these teams this season, the Avs won 5-2 on the road in their season opener on October 11th. I’d slightly lean the Kings answer back with a win at home today with Colorado in the second half of a back to back, and would lean the under, but not enough to bet on either. I’ll stay off this game entirely. Should be a really fun one.
