I went 2-2 on the NHL yesterday, not catching a break with the Rangers not holding on to cash the puck line and the Sabres game seeing a ton of chances for both teams but staying under, so I ended up losing 1.3 units. Tonight we have a six game slate, let’s turn it around.
Lightning vs. Stars (7:00)
These cross-conference teams are in the second half of a home and home after the Stars just dominated Tampa at home in Dallas with an 8-1 blowout win on Saturday. Both of these teams have been good this season but they’ve both played a bit poorly lately. The Lightning are on a four game losing streak without their offense getting much going in that span. I’d slightly lean the Stars finish the season sweep on the road here, but not enough to bet on it with them on the road. I expect the Bolts to keep this matchup much closer after getting embarrassed on Saturday and the pretty much pick’em price seems accurate. I’d slightly lean the under as well, but I feel like the best play on this game is staying off of it entirely.
Flyers vs. Penguins (7:00)
Another home and home in this one between one of the best rivalries in hockey. These games are always fun to watch, regardless of how these teams are playing and that held true on Saturday night in Pittsburgh, with the Pens tying the game up to force OT with Jake Guentzel’s goal with just 21 seconds left in regulation but Philly winning in a shootout on the road. The Flyers after a hot start to the season have cooled off, while the Pens have been a bit up and down all year. Pittsburgh’s the better team here and I’m going right back to them in this one after I lost betting them in Saturday’s matchup. I’ll take them for half a unit at a nicer price on the road. I’d slightly lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Canadiens vs. Kraken (7:30)
This matchup stinks. Both of these cross-conference teams stink. I’d slightly lean the Kraken win this game on the road to end their four game losing streak and would slightly lean the over, but not enough to bet anything on this shitty game. I’ll skip it completely.
Jets vs. Hurricanes (7:30)
Following up that shitty Habs/Kraken matchup, this cross-conference matchup should be fantastic. The Jets were one of the biggest surprises for me this season with how well they’ve played. After a there game skid, they got out of that slump with a 3-1 win at home against the Blackhawks (easy winner for me). The Canes started off the season slow, but they’re back to playing pretty close to the team going into the season that I expected to win the East this year. They just embarrassed my Sabres 6-2 on Saturday in a pathetic game on Saturday night and have an 11-3-1 record in their last 15 games. I feel like Carolina’s the better team in this matchup and although I’d still give a defensive edge to the Jets at home, I’d rather stay off a side in this game. Easily the best game on tonight’s slate. I do like the under though and I’ll take the under 6.5` for half a unit.
Coyotes vs. Capitals (9:00)
This could be a sneaky fun cross conference game. The Coyotes are a pain in the ass to play against and they’re even better at home at the Mullett. They come into tonight’s game on a four game win streak after a 4-1 win over the Blues. The Caps were pretty hot, but coming off a 4-1 loss to the Golden Knights on Saturday, they’ve cooled off a bit. I’d slightly lean Washington wins this game, but its too close for me to bet. I’d slightly lean the over, but I feel like that is a bit of a coin flip too. I’ll stay off this game completely.
Golden Knights vs. Blues (10:00)
Not the best game on tonight’s slate. The Golden Knights are one of the best teams in the NHL this season, coming into tonight’s game off two 4-1 wins in a row to get out of their slump, beating the Caps and Canucks. The Cup Champs have been fantastic on both ends of the ice and it feels like the Cup hangover’s over. The Blues have been better than I expected, but they’re still not a great team. I like the Knights to win this one pretty easily and I’ll take Vegas in regulation for a unit. I’d lean the under but not enough to bet on it.
