My lousy NHL run keeps going. Last night I went 1-2 to lose 1.26 units. Tonight we have an eight game slate that I actually really like. Gotta keep grinding away.
Senators vs. Rangers (7:00)
This is a decent matchup, but I give a pretty huge edge to the Rangers here. They’re one of the top teams in the NHL this season, playing fantastic hockey on both ends of the ice. They let me down a bit in their last matchup, beating the Sharks 6-5 on Sunday, not covering the puck line after having a three goal lead. They’re now on a three game win streak with a 16-2-1 record in their last 19 games. The Sens haven’t been great, and just ended a three game losing streak with a 2-0 win against the Kraken on Saturday. I like the Rags to win this one pretty easily and I’ll take them for a unit on the road. I’d slightly lean the under, but I’m not betting it.
Blue Jackets vs. Kings (7:00)
Huge cross-conference mismatch here. The Blue Jackets blow, while the Kings are one of the best teams in the NHL. This doesn’t need a whole lot of analysis. LA’s the way better team in this matchup and I like them to win on the road here. I’ll take them in regulation for a unit. I’d slightly lean the under, but no shot I’m betting it.
Sabres vs. Red Wings (7:30)
Going into this season, it was expected that these teams would probably be battling for the Wild Card spots in the East. That’s not the case anymore. The Red Wings have been a really solid team, especially lately with five wins in their last six games. Patty Kane was supposed to make his Detroit debut tonight against his hometown team, but that got delayed to likely Thursday. The Sabres meanwhile have sucked. It’s been embarrassing on a nightly basis and we have just three wins in our last eleven games. On the bright side, our best player, Tage Thompson is returning from injury tonight. I’m going to continue betting against the Sabres and I’ll take the Red Wings for half a unit on the road tonight. I’d lean the over, but I keep missing on those for both of these teams, so I’ll stay off it.
Islanders vs. Sharks (7:30)
This matchup fucking sucks. The Sharks are one of the worst teams in NHL history but they’ve been a bitch to bet against lately. They have three shocking wins in their last five games, but they keep covering puck lines and with the prices on them, its tough to find any value on them. The Islanders are a mid tier team, coming off two big teams but they’re by no means a great team. They’re far better than San Jose though and with the price under -200, I’ll take the Isles in regulation for a unit.
Blackhawks vs. Predators (8:30)
This is such a boring matchup to me. I don’t think either of these teams are great, but the Preds have played much better lately and the Blackhawks are one of the worst teams in the NHL. In the first game between these teams this season, the Predators won 4-2 at home. I like Smashville to win on the road here and I’ll take them for a unit.
Avalanche vs. Ducks (9:00)
These teams just played in Anaheim on Saturday and the Avs completely fucked me out of having a great night, losing my biggest play of the day. They blew a 3-1 first period lead, going on to lose 4-3 in a shootout. The Ducks were hot to start the season but they’ve cooled off big time and that win against the Avalanche ended their eight game losing streak. The Avs are a fantastic team but after Sunday night’s 4-1 loss in LA, they come into tonight on a three game losing streak. The first game between these teams, Colorado won in a blowout at home, winning 8-2. I fully expect the Avalanche to end their losing streak with a win here and to answer back from Saturday’s loss. The moneyline is too expensive for me at -275, but I will take Colorado in regulation at home for 1.5 units. I’d lean the over in this game, but I’ll just stick with the side here.
Flames vs. Wild (9:00)
Not a great matchup, but this should be a pretty fun game. The Wild have been terrible this year, but they’re on a three game win streak and have played well since firing head coach Dean Evason. The Flames had a pretty bad start but they’ve played better recently as well. I’d lean Calgary wins at home and the over in this game, but not enough to bet anything on this matchup, so I’ll stay off it completely.
Canucks vs. Devils (10:00)
All three Hughes brothers play together tonight as Jack, Luke, and the Devils head to Vancouver to take on Quinn’s Canucks. Pretty pumped to watch this game. I think this game is pretty close to a pick em. I’d slightly lean the Canucks win, but it’s a coin flip and I don’t see value in betting it. I do like the over 6.5 though, which I’ll take for half a unit. I considered betting Jack and Quinn to score, but I’m in too much of a hole to be going after cute bets like that.
