NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 12/8/23

The Red Wings let me down big time last night, blowing a 4-0 lead to the Sharks, swinging my night to a 2.79 unit loss on the NHL despite going 7-6. Tonight we have a small three game slate before the usual huge Saturday slate. Let’s bounce back!

Panthers vs. Penguins (7:00)

This should be a pretty fun game tonight. The Panthers have impressed me this year. Last season I thought they captured magic in a bottle and they wouldn’t be able to replicate it this year. They’ve been even better though, coming off a big 5-4 win against the Stars on Wednesday, playing really solid hockey on both ends of the ice. The Penguins are struggling right now, coming into tonight on a three game losing streak after a 3-1 loss in Tampa on Wednesday. They have just three wins in their last eleven games and just had a closed door players only meeting this past week. I like the Panthers to win this one at home and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet on it.

Blue Jackets vs. Blues (7:00)

This matchup kind of stinks. The Blue Jackets are terrible and after their 7-3 blowout loss to the Isles on Long Island yesterday, they’re on a three game losing streak with just five wins in their last 23 games. They’re brutal on both ends of the ice. I don’t think the Blues are a good team by any means, but St. Louis is the significantly better team in this matchup. Especially with Columbus in the second half of a back to back, I’ll take the Blues on the road for a unit. I feel like the total is pretty close to a coin flip and would slightly lean the under, but not enough to even consider betting it.

Oilers vs. Wild (9:00)

Exciting matchup out West tonight between the two teams that were on such bad runs that they fired their coaches this year. McDavid and the Oilers are back, coming into tonight’s game on a dominant five game win streak, with their offense averaging 5.4 goals in that span, coming off a huge 6-1 win over the Canes at home on Wednesday night. The Wild went on a solid run of their own after firing Dean Evason, with their four game win streak coming to an end last night with a 2-0 shutout loss in Vancouver to the Canucks. In the first game between these teams, the Wild won 7-4 at home on October 24th. I like the Oilers to answer back at home tonight and will take them for half a unit along with their team total over 3.5 for another half unit. Even though the Wild have trended under, I feel like the over is a good spot to go to here, which I’ll take for half a unit as well.
