Winning night for me on the NHL yesterday, going 4-1 to win .52 units. We’ve got a twelve game Saturday slate today. Let’s crush it for our third winning day in the last four days!
Bruins vs. Coyotes (1:00)
Fun cross conference game to get the day started off. Both of these teams are coming off win streaks ending on Thursday night (I lost on both teams), with the Bruins losing 3-1 at home to my Buffalo Sabres and the Coyotes having their five game win streak come to an end at home with a 4-1 loss to the Flyers. I’d expect Boston to win this game at home today, but the Yotes are a pain in the ass to play against and I think this ends up being too close of a game to bet the -240 on or to limit myself to regulation on. I like the under here, but at just 5.5, I feel like the right move is just laying off this game entirely.
Stars vs. Golden Knights (4:00)
Great matchup out West this afternoon, between two teams that I think could win the Cup this season. Both of the first two games this season between these teams needed overtime to determine a winner, with Vegas winning both, 3-2 at home in a shootout and then 2-1 in overtime in Dallas (on Jack Eichel’s incredible game winner). The Stars have been in a bit of a slump lately, but I’d slightly lean they get the win at home tonight and avoid the season sweep despite the Golden Knights being the better team. Not enough to bet it though. I also leaned the under, but not enough to bet at 5.5. I’ll stay off this game completely too.
Flames vs. Devils (4:00)
Both of these teams are playing much better hockey lately. The Flames, coming off their 3-2 comeback win against the Flames on Thursday have seven wins in their last twelve games. The Devils closed out my night on Thursday with a win, beating the Kraken 2-1 and have been hot lately with five wins in their last six games. Their offense has been incredible, but they’ve struggled defensively. I like Jersey to win here on the road and will take them for half a unit. I also like the over which I’ll take for half a unit as well.
Sabres vs. Canadiens (7:00)
I was busy on Thursday night and although I watched the whole Sabres game, I wasn’t able to write my normal blog breaking it down. I was very impressed with how my boys played, shocking the Bruins with a really good 3-1 win on the road. That win ended the embarrassing four game losing streak we were on. The Habs suck too though, coming off a 4-0 shutout loss to the Kings (easy win for me Thursday) with just one win in their last four games, so this isn’t a great game. In the first game between these Atlantic Division teams in Buffalo on October 23rd, we lost 3-1 at home. I’d lean my Sabres win this one and answer back, but not enough to bet on them, especially at -175. I’d also slightly lean the under, but not enough to bet it with both teams struggling defensively. I will lay off this game entirely from a betting perspective. Go Sabres!
Maple Leafs vs. Predators (7:00)
This is a pretty fun cross conference matchup tonight up in the 6. Both of these teams have been pretty good, but not excellent this year. The first game between these teams in Smashville needed overtime, with the Preds winning 3-2 at home. The Leafs, coming off a 4-3 win over the Sens on Thursday have won three of their last four games. Their games are always close though, as they only have six regulation wins. The Preds, coming into tonight on a three game win streak after a 5-1 win over the Bolts on Thursday have played really well. I’d lean the Leafs win at home tonight but not enough to bet it. I do like the over though, and I’ll take the alternate over 6 for half a unit.
Red Wings vs. Senators (7:00)
In Patrick Kane’s Red Wings debut on Thursday night, they fucked me so bad, no spit, no lube, sandpaper finish, blowing a 4-0 second period lead, and then giving up the tying goal with 1:29 left in regulation before going on to lose 6-5 in overtime. That loss ended their three game win streak, just their second loss in their last eight games. Detroit’s a good team, especially offensively this season. The Senators have struggled, coming off a 4-3 loss to the Leafs (double winner for me). These teams split their first two games this season in Ottawa, with the Red Wings winning 5-2 and the Sens answering back with a 5-4 overtime win. I like three plays here, expecting the Red Wings to win in a high scoring game. For a unit each I’ll take Detroit, Detroit team total over 3.5, and the over.
Capitals vs. Rangers (7:00)
This should be a fun game in Metro Division. The Rangers are one of the best teams in the NHL this season, playing great hockey on both ends of the ice. They had a three game win streak come to an end with a really surprising 6-2 loss to the Sens on Tuesday night. The Caps were hot to start the year but coming off a 5-4 shootout loss in a great game on Thursday against the Stars at home, they’re on a three game losing streak, cooling off with just two wins in their last seven games. I like the Rags to win here on the road and I’ll take them for a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
Islanders vs. Kings (7:30)
Not a whole lot of luster on this game for me. The Kings are a fantastic team this season. I think they could win the Cup this season, playing phenomenal hockey on both ends of the ice. After a 4-0 shutout win in Montreal on Thursday, they’re on a three game win streak with just one loss in their last nine games. I don’t think the Isles are that good and have been quite inconsistent, but have a 3-0-1 record in their last four games. I like the Kings to win here on the road on Long Island and I’ll take them for a unit. I’d lean the over but not enough to bet it.
Blackhawks vs. Blues (8:00)
This matchup blows. The Blackhawks suck, even with Bedard. They just ended a four game losing streak on Thursday with a 1-0 shutout win over the Ducks, just their third win in their last 13 games. The Blues aren’t all that great either. Last night my only loss on the slate (on my biggest bet yesterday) came as they lost 5-2 in Columbus. St. Louis has only picked up one win in their last four games. The Blues won the first game between these teams 4-2 and even in the second half of a back to back, I’d lean they win again on the road in Chicago tonight, but I’m not betting this. I’d slightly lean the under but I’m not touching this game.
Avalanche vs. Flyers (9:00)
Solid matchup here. The Flyers have played way above my expectations this season, coming into tonight’s game on a three game win streak and a 14-10-2 record after their 4-1 win in Arizona on Thursday (loss for me). Torts has his team playing well, especially defensively. The Avs are the far better team but have underachieved. After their 4-2 loss to the Jets on Thursday, they’ve only picked up one win in their last five games. Colorado’s the much better team in this matchup and I’d expect them to win at home tonight, but the -215 price here is way too expensive and I don’t like the idea of limiting to myself to regulation on this one. I do like the under though, and I’ll take the alternate under 6.5 for half a unit.
Canucks vs. Hurricanes (10:00)
Fun cross-conference matchup here between these two good teams. The Canucks are coming off a 2-0 win against the Wild on Thursday night and they’ve played really solid hockey on both ends of the ice. The Canes have underachieved this year, especially from my preseason expectations of them to win the East. After blowing a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 in Calgary on Thursday, they’re on a three game losing streak. I think this ends up being a very close game. I’d lean the Canucks win at home and the over, but don’t see enough value to bet anything here. I’ll skip this game.
Kraken vs. Lightning (10:00)
Not the best cross conference matchup to close out tonight’s slate. The Lightning are coming off a 5-1 loss in Nashville on Thursday and have been pretty inconsistent this year. They’re in a bit of a mini-slump with two wins in their last seven games. The Kraken were good last year but this season have look much more like their horrible inaugural season and have sucked this year. Coming off a 2-1 loss at home to the Devils to close my Thursday night out with a win, they’re on a brutal six game losing streak. The first game between these teams needed overtime with the Kraken winning 4-3 on the road down in Tampa. I like the Bolts to answer back with a win here on the road and I’ll take Tampa for half a unit. I’d slightly lean the under but not enough to bet it.
