NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 12/13/23

Losing night for me on the NHL with the late games falling apart last night. I was 4-7 to lose 4.89 units. Not great. Tonight we have a five game slate, let’s bounce back!

Canadiens vs. Penguins (7:00)

This isn’t the best matchup to start the day off. The Penguins are in the second half of a back to back, coming off a 4-2 win over the Coyotes last night that ended their four game losing streak (I surprisingly got the win on the under in that game after there were four goals in the first period). That was just the fourth win for the Pens in their last 13 games as they’ve been in a bit of a slump offensively. The Habs have been a pretty lousy team this season, coming off a 2-1 loss to the Preds on Sunday, struggling even worse offensively, without the good defense for the Penguins. Pittsburgh should win this game on the road tonight, even on the second half of a back to back, but I don’t like it quite enough to bet on. I do like the under again though, which I’ll take for half a unit. I don’t see either offense getting much going tonight.

Devils vs. Bruins (7:30)

I’m expecting this to be a pretty fun game tonight. Both of these teams are playing really solid hockey as of late. The Devils, although coming off a 4-1 loss in Edmonton on Sunday, have been playing great, with six wins in their last eight games. Their offense has been very good this season, but they’ve struggled defensively. The Bruins have been fantastic this year. Coming off a 5-3 win against the Yotes on Saturday to bounce back from their loss to the Sabres on Thursday, the B’s have four wins in their last five games and lead the Eastern Conference. They’ve played great hockey on both ends of the ice, especially defensively. I’d lean Boston gets the win on the road here but its too close of a matchup for me to bet on. I’d also lean the under with the way the Bruins have played defensively and that the last three Devils games have hit the under, but with the way Jersey’s trended this season, I’ll lay off this game entirely.

Islanders vs. Ducks (7:30)

Pretty lousy matchup here tonight. The Islanders have been hot lately. After being a middling team to start off the year, they now have five wins in their last six games, coming off a 4-3 overtime win against the Leafs on Monday night, and have picked up at least a point in all but one of their last 13 games. The Ducks on the other hand have been brutal, coming into tonight’s game with just one win in their last twelve games after a 4-2 loss to the Jets on Sunday. I expect the status quo to continue with both of these teams and I’ll take the Isles for a unit.

Avalanche vs. Sabres (10:00)

My Sabres shocked me in the first game between these cross conference teams this season, dominating in one of their best games of the season, winning 4-0 in a shootout at home on October 29th. They’re coming off a solid 5-2 win against the Coyotes at home on Monday, and have picked up at least a point in their last three games, with two wins in that span. Hopefully they figured something out. The Avs have struggled lately, despite being one of the teams that I think could end up winning the Cup this year. They’re coming off a big 6-5 comeback win at home on Monday against the Flames, coming back from down 5-3 going into the third period. That was just their second win in their last seven games. Colorado’s the way better team in this matchup and I expect them to get a win at home tonight to answer back from that shutout earlier this season. I’ll bet against my boys and take the Avalanche in regulation for a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet on it.

Kings vs. Jets (10:30)

This should be a fun matchup between two really good teams in the West. The Jets have far exceeded my expectations this season. They’re in the second half of a back to back tonight, coming off a 2-1 loss in San Jose last night (Sharks win again…) that ends their four game win streak. Their offense, in the first game without Kyle Connor, who’s out with injury, couldn’t get much going. The Kings have been fantastic this season and they’re my second pick behind Vegas to win the Cup. They’re coming off two losses in a row after a 4-1 loss against the Rangers on Sunday. LA’s been one of the best teams in the league on both ends of the ice this year. In the first game between these teams in Winnipeg on October 17th, the Kings won in a blowout, winning 5-1 on the road. I expect them to bounce back here at home, especially with the Jets in the second half of a back to back. I’ll take LA for a unit here.
