NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 12/15/23

Losing day for me yesterday on the NHL (shocker), going 3-4 to lose 2.28 units. Tonight we have a six game slate. Gotta keep grinding away with these games and try to get some wins.

Rangers vs. Ducks (7:00)

Huge cross conference mismatch here to start off the night. The Rangers are fantastic this season, leading the Metro Division. They’re in a little bit of a slump though, with just one win in their last four games, coming off a 7-3 loss to the Leafs at home on Tuesday. They’ve been great on both ends of the ice. The Ducks have been awful, coming into tonight’s game on a four game losing streak with only one win in their last 13 games. They’ve been terrible on both ends of the ice. The Rags should easily bounce back from their loss to the Leafs with a big win at home here and beat up on a struggling Anaheim team. I’ll take New York in regulation for 1.5 units. I’d lean the over but not enough to bet it.

Hurricanes vs. Predators (7:30)

This is a pretty fun matchup. The Hurricanes were a team that going into the season I expected to be one of the top teams in the East this year, but they’ve struggled a bit more than I expected. They’ve won their last two games in a row, coming off a 2-1 win in Detroit last night, after they had ended a four game losing streak with a 4-1 win in Ottawa on Tuesday. The Preds have played really well lately. Coming off a 3-2 overtime win in Philly on Tuesday, they’ve won five of their last six games, and eleven of their last 14. This is a coin flip type of game to me. I think Carolina’s the better team here, but with them on the second half of a back to back, I’d lean the Preds get the win here, but not enough to bet on it. I do like the under though, and I’ll take the under 6.5 for half a unit.

Islanders vs. Bruins (7:30)

Solid matchup here in the East tonight. After a slow start to the season, the Isles have been very hot lately with their power play clicking and leading the way. Coming off a 4-3 win against the Ducks on Wednesday, they’re on a four game win streak with six wins in their last seven games and they’ve picked up at least a point in all but one of their last 14 games. The Bruins have been very good this season, leading the Eastern Conference. They’re coming off a 2-1 overtime loss in Jersey on Wednesday, with four wins in their last six games. In the first game between these teams this season, the Bruins won 5-2 at home. I’d lean they win again here and end the Isles win streak, but not enough to bet it. With the total at only 5.5, I do like the over a bit, which I’ll take for half a unit.

Stars vs. Senators (8:00)

Not the best matchup here. The Senators have been brutal this season, in last place in the Atlantic Division. They’re on the second half of a back to back, coming off a 4-2 loss in St. Louis last night and have just picked up one win in their last four games. The Stars are a solid team, comfortably in a playoff spot this year. They are in a little bit of a slump with just four wins in their last twelve games, but they’re coming off a solid 6-3 win against the Red Wings on Monday. I like them to score with ease tonight at home. I’ll take the Stars in regulation and their team total over 3.5 for a unit each. I’d lean the over on the game, but would rather just stick to the Dallas side of it.

Coyotes vs. Sharks (9:00)

This is a surprisingly fun matchup tonight between two lousy teams. After going on a really hot run, beating all of the last four Cup champs in a row, the Yotes now come into tonight’s game on a four game losing streak, returning from an East coast road trip after their 4-2 loss in Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Overall on the season they’ve been decent though. The Sharks have shockingly kept on winning. They looked like the worst team in NHL history to start the season, but that’s clearly not the case anymore. Coming off a 2-1 win against the Jets on Tuesday night, they have six wins in their last eight games, with a 6-2-2 record in their last ten games. They’re not an easy win when you bet against them every night. I’d expect the Yotes to end their losing streak with a win at home tonight in the Mullett, but I don’t think its worth betting on at almost -200. I like the over though, expecting both teams to light the lamp. I’ll take the alternate over 5.5 which is surprisingly cheap for a unit. I was originally going to take the alternate over 6 at -118, but I think buying it to 5.5 is worth it here.

Golden Knights vs. Sabres (10:00)

Huge mismatch here between my two favorite teams. My Sabres have struggled all season, not able to put everything together, and really struggling offensively. We’re coming off a 5-1 loss to the Avs on Wednesday night, a game that wasn’t as horrendous as the score, getting crushed in the first period but then playing competitive hockey. It was just too late by then and the same reoccurring problems with the Sabres not being able to score and the slow starts. Vegas is on a hot run as they lead the league again this year while they look to defend their Stanley Cup. Although they’ve kept games close, they’re on a four game win streak after Mark Stone’s OT winner against the Flames (after they gave up the tying goal with a minute left to blow my regulation play on them) on Tuesday night. They’ve picked up at least a point in their last eleven games in a row. Eichel and the Knights are the way better team here and I fully expect them to win tonight. I’ll take Vegas in regulation for a unit. I like the over too, which I’ll take at 6 for half a unit. I’ll also take Jack Eichel over 3.5 shots on goal against his former team for half a unit. I looked at his goal prop and point props too, but didn’t see enough value in either.
