NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 12/18/23

I went 3-2 on yesterday’s NHL slate, essentially breaking even as I lost 0.24 units with the Devils letting me down to prevent the sweep. Tonight we have a smaller five game slate. Let’s go!

Red Wings vs. Ducks (7:00)

Not the best game tonight with both of these cross conference teams struggling quite a bit lately. The Red Wings, who are coming off a 1-0 shutout loss in Philly on Saturday, have been in a big slump lately, with just one win in their last six games. They have been good this season though, especially offensively. The Ducks have been terrible, but just ended their five game losing streak yesterday with a 5-1 win in New Jersey (double loser for me that kept me from sweeping the board. That was just the second win for Anaheim in their last 15 games. They’ve stunk on both ends of the ice. I like the Red Wings to get right with a win here at home tonight and I don’t see the Ducks getting two wins in a row here. I’ll take Detroit in regulation for a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.

Penguins vs. Wild (7:00)

This should be an entertaining matchup between two teams that both aren’t all that great. The Penguins just got blown out 7-0 on Saturday night in Toronto and have just two wins in their last seven games. The Wild come into tonight’s game on a three game win streak, with two shootout wins in a row against the Canucks on Saturday and the Flames on Thursday. Statistically they match up pretty evenly with the offensive edge a bit on Minnesota’s side with the defensive edge on the Pens side. I’d lean Pittsburgh wins here at home and the under, but not enough to bet on either, so I’ll stay off this game entirely.

Jets vs. Canadiens (7:30)

Huge mismatch for this cross conference game tonight. The Jets have been fantastic this season. They’re rolling right now, even with Kyle Connor out injured. They’re coming off a huge 6-2 win over the Avalanche on Saturday night and they have six wins in their last seven games. Winnipeg’s playing great hockey on both ends of the ice. The Habs haven’t been great this season, but are coming off a nice 5-3 win on Saturday over the Islanders. They have struggled on both ends of the ice. In the first game between these teams in Montreal, the Canadiens won 4-3 in a shootout at home. I like the Jets to answer back with a win at home tonight. I’ll take them in regulation for 1.5 units. I’d lean the over but not enough to bet it.

Stars vs. Kraken (8:00)

This is another pretty big mismatch out West. The Stars have been a really solid team this season and have a 3-1-1 record in their last five games, coming off a 4-3 overtime loss in St. Louis on Saturday night. The Kraken have been terrible this season. They’re coming off a 3-2 shootout loss to the Kings (winner for me late on Saturday night) after they got two dominant wins (beating the Blackhawks 7-1 and the Panthers). This should be a pretty easy win for Dallas at home tonight and I’ll take them for a unit.

Flames vs. Panthers (9:30)

This matchup isn’t great for this cross conference game to end the night. The Panthers after two 4-0 shutout losses in Vancouver and Seattle bounced back with a 5-1 win in Edmonton on Saturday. The defending Eastern Conference champs have been very good this season, especially defensively, proving that they didn’t just catch lightning in a bottle on their run to the Stanley Cup Finals last night. The Flames haven’t been great this year, but just ended a four game losing streak on Saturday with a 4-2 win against the Lightning, with just their second win in their last eight games. I like Florida to win this one tonight on the road and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
