After getting completely embarrassed on Tuesday night with the worst game of the season, the offense came alive tonight and bounced back with the best show of the year, blowing out the Leafs 9-3 in a fantastic game.
The Sabres scored first again tonight 2:27 into the game with Jordan Greenway causing a turnover and taking a quick shot off a pass from Clifton in transition to put Buffalo up 1-0 early in the game. Let’s see if they can actually hold onto that tonight. Auston Matthew tied it up not long after with 12:32 left in the first with a beautiful no look goal from way down low that it didn’t look like Levi even saw. Toronto got their first lead of the game on the power play on a shot from Max Domi with 7:21. Just over a minute later, Owen Power tied the game again at 2 with 6:16 left. Samsonov made the save on a two on one between Mittelstadt and Benson, but left the net wide open for Power to shovel in the rebound. The Sabres took the lead back again with Jeff Skinner getting on the board with 4:09 left in the first, right in front on a nice pass from Alex Tuch. Fun first period with plenty of goals for both teams, a nice pace for the over. Buffalo didn’t look bad after our horrendous blowout on Tuesday night.
Dahlin extended the lead 4:44 into the second period with a shot from right up the middle, top shelf past Samsonov, who never saw the puck. 4-2 Buffalo. Jarnkrok answered right back shorthanded though, cutting the lead to 4-3 with a one timer in transition from Auston Matthews less than a minute later, just 5:42 into the second. With 11:38 left to go in the second period, Tage Thompson got the Sabres the two goal lead back with our fifth goal of the game, beating Samsonov glove side low and leading to a goalie change for the Leafs, with Martin Jones going in net. Kyle Okposo added to the lead, tearing up the ice to get a shorthanded goal and make it a 6-3 game with 8:56 left in the second period. Another really fun period and the Sabres impressed me with keeping their foot on the gas.
The Sabres got the first goal of the third period, extending the lead to 7-3 as Jack Quinn tipped in a cross ice pass right in front by JJ Peterka with 8:52 left in the game. Skinner got his second goal of the game, making it 8-3 with 7:37 left. Buffalo kept padding the lead and with 4:58, Okposo, who got some shit for his post game interview on Tuesday got his second of the game to make it 9-3 Buffalo.
SCORE: Sabres 9, Maple Leafs 3
What a game. I absolutely didn’t expect this kind of show from the Sabres tonight after reaching our complete low on Tuesday night. This game tonight could not have been the opposite. Fantastic game from start to finish on both ends of the ice.
Let’s Go Buffalo!
