NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 12/22/23

Finally a profitable night yesterday on the NHL, going 6-3-1 to win 0.87 units. Way better than losing. Tonight we have a four game slate before a huge one tomorrow heading into Christmas break. Let’s win again!

Red Wings vs. Flyers (7:00)

Interesting game here that I don’t love from a gambling perspective. Torts and his Flyers are playing really good defensive hockey, a big shocker this season. They had their nine game point streak end last night with just their second loss in their last nine games, losing 4-2 at home against the Preds (push on my under in that game). Although their offense hasn’t been great, their defense is elite. The Red Wings have the opposite issue. Their offense is very good, but their defense has struggled big time. Kane and Detroit come into tonight on a four game losing streak after their 5-2 loss in Winnipeg on Wednesday night and have just one win in their last eight games. In the first game between these teams, they grinded it out in Philly last Saturday, with the Flyers winning a 1-0 shutout. I’d slightly lean the Red Wings win this one tonight at home with Philly in the second half of a back to back, but the best move here in my opinion is staying off it. The total’s pretty much a coin flip to me even though last week’s matchup was as low scoring as it gets, so I’ll stay off this game entirely.

Rangers vs. Oilers (7:30)

Great game tonight that should be highly entertaining. The Rangers have been fantastic, leading the Eastern Conference. Coming off a 5-2 win in Toronto on Tuesday, they’re on a three game win streak and they’ve been awesome on both ends of the ice. The Oilers ended their three game losing streak last night, easily hitting the over for me as they beat the Devils 6-3 on the road. McDavid and his Oil have been fantastic offensively, but their defense has been tough. In the first game between these teams in Edmonton, the Rags got a 3-0 shutout win in October. Especially with Edmonton in the second half of a back to back, I like the Rangers to win tonight at home in MSG. We’re getting a great price on them and I’ll take it for half a unit. I’d lean the over slightly, but not enough to bet it.

Jets vs. Bruins (8:00)

AWESOME cross conference matchup here. The Jets have been fantastic this season. Coming off their 5-2 win against the Red Wings at home on Wednesday to bounce back from their 3-2 OT loss to the Habs on Monday, they’ve pick up at least a point in all but one of their last nine games with 15 wins in their last 21 games. On fire. The Bruins have been very good too. They lead the Atlantic and although they only have one win in their last four games, they’ve picked up at least a point in each of their last five games and eight of their last nine games. I’d lean the Jets at home and the over in this game, but not enough to bet on either in what should be a fantastic, close game. I’ll stay off it but I can’t wait to watch this game tonight.

Blackhawks vs. Canadiens (8:30)

That Jets vs. Bruins matchup is so fantastic, you knew the NHL had to follow it up with this horrible game. Both of these teams blow. The Blackhawks ended a four game losing streak on Tuesday with a shocking 3-2 win against the Avs. That was just the fifth win in the last 19 games. The Habs, coming off a 3-2 loss last night in overtime in Minnesota, have been slightly better, picking up at least a point in their last four games, with two wins in their last three. Montreal won the first game between these teams early in the season 3-2 at home. I think the Habs are the better team here and even in the second half of a back to back, they should win, I just don’t see any value in betting this game. I’d slightly lean the over with two bad defenses, but the poor offense doesn’t warrant enough of a bet here. I’ll stay off this game entirely and don’t really care what the result of it is.
