I did a solid job picking games last night on the NHL, going 8-4, but lost my two biggest plays with the Rangers losing and the Jets only winning by a goal, losing 1.12 units on the night. Annoying. Tonight we have just two games before every team is in action tomorrow. It’s been a solid week. Let’s bounce back!
Stars vs. Predators (8:00)
This should be a pretty good matchup in the Central Division. This will be the third game this season between these teams, with both prior games being one goal wins by the road team with the Stars winning 3-2 in Nashville on December 23rd and the Preds winning 4-3 in Dallas, less than a week ago on January 6th. Both of these teams have played well. The Stars after a three game losing streak bounced back blowing out the Wild twice in a home and home, winning a 4-0 shutout on the road and then 7-2 blowout at home. Dallas has been pretty good on both ends of the ice as they’re comfortably in the third place spot in the Central. The Preds let me down with a 5-3 loss at home against the Ducks on Tuesday and although they have three wins in their last five games, they have a 3-5-1 record in their last nine games. I’d expect the Stars to win this game, which I’ll take for half a unit. I do like the over too which I’ll take for half a unit as well.
Wild vs. Flyers (8:00)
On paper this isn’t a great game but it could be a pretty interesting matchup. The Wild have struggled this season, coming into tonight’s game with just one win in their last seven games after two blowout losses against the Stars in a home and home on Monday and Wednesday, losing 4-0 and then 7-2. They’ve had their issues on both ends of the ice. The Flyers are having a pretty good season, tied in points with the Islanders for third place in the Metro and hold the first Wild Card spot in the East. They’re coming off a 3-2 shootout win at home against the Habs on Wednesday and although their offense has struggled this year, they’ve been really good defensively. Philly won the first game between these teams pretty easily, winning 6-2 at home. I like the Flyers to win this game again tonight on the road and I’ll take them for half a unit.
