Sabres vs. Canucks: 1/13/24 – Game Reactions/Recap

Coming off a solid 5-3 win on Thursday night at home against the Sens, the Sabres followed it up tonight with such a boring game, losing in a 1-0 shutout at home to the Canucks.

After a scoreless first period where both teams had some decent chances but couldn’t find the back of the net, Brock Boeser scored less than a minute into the second period but the goal was very quickly taken off the board, obviously offsides when it was reviewed. A couple minutes later, Sam Lafferty got the Canucks on the board just 2:05 into the period, with a pretty easy goal in front, going right around UPL in the crease. Not a horrible period for the Sabres, but pretty boring to watch. Both teams got some decent chances but other than the Lafferty goal, nothing resulted from it. The third period went scoreless and although the Sabres had a nice chance to tie it up in the closing seconds, they couldn’t beat Demko and ended the game as a 1-0 shutout loss.

FINAL: Sabres 0, Canucks 1

The defense and UPL played well tonight. You can’t really complain about the back end when you only give up one goal all game, but the fact that the offense couldn’t light the lamp even once tonight was pathetic. We outshot Vancouver 26-23, but got out chanced 18-17 and just slightly outplayed by an expected goal rate of 2.2-2.1. Although Vancouver didn’t score on either of their two power plays, we didn’t score on either of our three. Such a boring game to watch.
