NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 1/17/24

Best night of the NHL season last night for me! I absolutely crushed the slate with a SWEEP, going a beautiful 9-0 to win 8.84 units! Tonight we have just a two game slate (with the Sabres game postponed for snow here in Buffalo again), let’s build on that!

Panthers vs. Red Wings (7:00)

This is a pretty interesting Atlantic Division game and I’m a bit surprised that the price on it isn’t closer. The Panthers shocked me on Monday night, losing 5-4 in overtime to the Ducks at home, a big loss for me on my biggest play of the day. That was their second loss in a row after their nine game win streak came to an end on Saturday with a 4-1 loss against the Devils. Florida’s been fantastic on both ends of the ice, and I could see them making another run at the Cup with how awesome they’ve played this year, comfortably in second place in the Atlantic. The Red Wings have played really well recently. Coming off a 4-2 win in Toronto on Sunday night (a goal short of the over to sweep my day), they’ve played themselves back into the Wild Card in the East and are just a point back from the Leafs, with a 5-0-1 record in their last six games. The Panthers won the first game between these teams 2-0 earlier this season. They’re the better team in this matchup and I’d expect that they bounce back from their two losses with a win tonight at home. That being said, I think the line on this game is way overpriced. I would’ve priced this around -160ish on Florida, not -225. I’d lean they win again and would lean the over in this matchup, but not enough to bet on either. I’ll lay off this game completely. Should be a pretty fun one to watch on this quiet night.

Devils vs. Canadiens (7:00)

This isn’t a great matchup. The Devils still have a bunch of significant injuries and coming off their 3-0 shutout loss in Boston on Monday, they have just one win in their last four games, but they have played pretty well, with a 6-3-1 record in their last ten games. Although Jersey’s struggled defensively all season, their offense has been awesome. The Habs shocked me in their last game, with a 4-3 win at home in an evenly played game against the Avalanche on Monday. That was just their third win in their last ten games. Montreal’s been pretty terrible this season and have struggled on both ends of the ice. The Devils dominated the first game between these teams this season, winning 5-2 on the road in October. I’d expect another win for them at home and I’ll take them for half a unit. I like the over as well and I’ll take the alternate over 6 for half a unit too.
