NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 1/23/24

Losing night for me yesterday on the NHL as the Kings closed it out with a loss to the Sharks. I ended the night going 2-5 to lose 3.38 units. Tonight we have a big nine game slate. Let’s crush it!

I’m keeping these write ups pretty short tonight. I don’t have time to list off the trends and stats that make me come up with my bets. If you want that info go to ESPN, LeftWingLock, and NHL.com.

Canadiens vs. Senators (7:00)

Pretty lousy matchup in the Atlantic Division to start off the night. Both of these teams are struggling, with brutal offense for the Habs and terrible defense for the Sens. I feel like Montreal’s the better team here but would slightly lean the Senators win again here on the road. I’ll stay off the side. I do like the over in this game though, which I’ll take for half a unit.

Red Wings vs. Stars (7:00)

This cross conference game should be pretty fun tonight. This should be a close game, with both of these teams playing really well. Dallas won the first game between these teams 6-3 and I think this one ends up being a closer game. I’d still lightly lean the Stars win again on the road here and would lean the under, but not enough to bet either. I’ll lay off this game entirely.

Flyers vs. Lightning (7:00)

Interesting Eastern Conference matchup here. This should be a pretty solid game. I’d lean the Lightning win this one and would slightly lean the over, but not enough to bet on it. I’ll stay off this game entirely. This should easily be the best matchup on tonight’s slate.

Islanders vs. Golden Knights (7:30)

This is another game that should be pretty awesome tonight on Long Island. The Isles ended their losing streak with a 3-2 overtime win over the Stars on Sunday night in their first game under new head coach Patrick Roy. The Golden Knights are playing much better lately again, although the Cup Champs are on the second half of a back to back tonight after their 6-5 overtime loss in Jersey last night (loss for me). Vegas is the better team here but with them on the second half of a back to back, I feel like the Isles probably win it at home. I’d lean the under here, but this is another game that’s best to just stay off betting.

Wild vs. Capitals (8:00)

The Wild have been pretty lousy this season, but they’re playing well lately with three wins in their last four games, beating the Canes, Panthers, and Isles in that span. The Caps are playing pretty well this season, over exceeding expectations and they’re right in the playoff mix in the East. Statistically both of these teams have struggled offensively, but the Caps have been really solid defensively. The first game between these teams was close needing a shootout for the Caps to win 3-2 at home. I like them to win again here on the road. We’re getting a nice price on them as a dog, which I’ll take for half a unit. I’d lean the under, but at 5.5 and with Minnesota trending over lately, I’ll stay off the side and just stick with Washington here.

Flames vs. Blues (9:00)

Not the best game here, but it could actually end up being a pretty interesting matchup as both of these sub par teams are just a point apart in the standings, and both a bit outside of the Wild Card race. The Blues won the first game between these teams 3-0 with a shutout on the road. I like Calgary to answer back with a win at home, and I’ll take the Flames for half a unit. I feel like the total is a complete toss up, which I’ll stay off.

Oilers vs. Blue Jackets (9:00)

Huge cross conference mismatch here. The Oilers record breaking run just keeps on churning, as they’re now on a 13 game win streak after a 3-1 win on the road in the Battle of Alberta. Not only is their offense elite, but their defense has been very good as well. The Blue Jackets on the other hand blow, playing terrible hockey on both ends of the ice. This should be an easy win for Edmonton at home to keep their win streak going. A lot of the price on this game are too expensive for me to bet on, but I’ll take the Oilers puck line for 1.5 units. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.

Ducks vs. Sabres (10:00)

Sabres after Dark is back as we begin our Cali road trip. The Sabres are playing decent hockey right now with three wins in our last five games, coming off a 3-1 loss to the Lightning that we actually played pretty well in on Saturday afternoon, but ultimately a couple early turnovers and the inability to find the back of the net on good opportunities to score lead to the loss. The Ducks have been awful this year, only better than the Sharks (and even that is barely, seeing that they just lost to the Sharks on Saturday). I like my Sabres to get a win here on the road and I’ll take them for a unit. I’d slightly lean the over, but don’t see any edge to bet it.

Sharks vs. Rangers (10:30)

Gigantic mismatch to close out the night. The Rangers lead the Metro Division, and come into tonight off a huge four goal third period to cover my alternate puck line in Anaheim on Sunday. They’ve played fantastic hockey on both ends of the ice. The Sharks are the worst team in the NHL, but are coming off two big wins in a row against their California rivals. Last night they beat the Kings 4-3 in a shootout on the road after they beat the Ducks 5-3. The first game between these teams was shockingly very close at MSG, with the Rags winning 6-5. Especially with the Sharks coming off two wins in a row and on the second half of a back to back, I absolutely love the Rangers to win this game in a blowout and kick the shit out of San Jose. I’ll take the Rangers puck line for two units along with another unit on their team total over 3.5.
