NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 1/24/24

Pretty brutal night for me on the NHL last night, going 1-6 to lose 6.08 units. Seven game slate tonight. Let’s get out of this slump.

Maple Leafs vs. Jets (7:00)

Pretty solid cross conference matchup here up in Canada. I think the Jets are the better team here while the Leafs are a broken team that can’t put it all together. I’ll take Winnipeg here as a road dog for half a unit. I’d slightly lean the under, but not enough to bet it.

Panthers vs. Coyotes (7:00)

Not the best matchup here. On Monday night the Panthers finally ended their four game losing streak with a 4-1 win in Nashville. The Coyotes have played pretty well lately, but I don’t see them competing with a team I think could get out of the East. The first game between these teams was a 4-1 win for Florida on the road. I like them to win again, likely pretty easily. I’ll take the Panthers in regulation for a unit.

Bruins vs. Hurricanes (7:30)

Fantastic matchup in the East tonight between two teams that I could see playing in the Eastern Conference Finals this season. I’d expect this to be a close, low scoring game, despite both of the these teams trending over and playing really well lately. I give a slight edge to the Bruins in this matchup on both ends of the ice, and at home, but I don’t see enough of an edge to bet it. I’ll lay off this game.

Avalanche vs. Capitals (9:30)

This isn’t the best cross conference matchup tonight, especially with the Caps in the second half of a back to back, coming off a 5-3 loss in Minnesota last night (loss for me on that too). The Avs are playing great right now and although Washington has a bit of a defense edge in this matchup, I like Colorado to win this game pretty easily. I’ll take them in regulation for a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.

Canucks vs. Blues (10:00)

Not the best game here either on a slate with a bunch of big mismatches tonight. The Canucks are fantastic, leading the Western Conference and playing incredible hockey on both ends of the ice. The Blues are a mid tier team, and coming in on two wins in a row, in the second half of a back to back tonight after a 4-3 win in Calgary yesterday (another loss on my card). These teams split their first two games, each winning at home with a 5-0 Canucks shutout win and a 2-1 Blues win. Vancouver’s the far superior team here and I expect an easy win for them tonight, especially with St. Louis in the second half of a back to back on the road. I’ll take the Canucks in regulation for 1.5 units. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet that.

Kraken vs. Blackhawks (10:00)

Biggest mismatch on tonight’s slate here. Both of these teams have struggled lately. The Kraken played themselves back into the Wild Card mix in the West after a horrible start to the season, but they come into tonight’s game on a four game losing streak. The Blackhawks have been horrible all season though and this is a great get right spot for Seattle. I’ll take the Kraken in regulation for 1.5 units. I’d lean the under, but with how awful the defense is for Chicago, I’ll stay off the total.

Kings vs. Sabres (10:30)

Pretty lousy game for Sabres after dark tonight. Both of these teams have struggled quite a bit lately. My Sabres are in the second half of a back to back tonight, after we couldn’t even beat the Ducks last night, losing 4-2 against the second worst team in the NHL. The Kings are a far better team, but they’re struggling right now too, coming off a 4-3 shootout loss to the Sharks, the worst team in the league and although they’re still in the Wild Card mix, LA only has two wins in their last 13 games. This should be a Kings win at home and I’ll bet against my boys for a unit, laying the -195 on LA.
