NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 1/26/24

I grinded out a tiny profit last night on the NHL, going 4-4-1 to win .24 units. Better than losing. Onto tonight with a smaller four game slate before a fully loaded slate tomorrow. Let’s win again!

Rangers vs. Golden Knights (7:00)

Pretty interesting matchup here between two of the top teams in the NHL, but they come into this game on pretty different runs right now. The Rangers, couldn’t even beat the Sharks, losing 3-2 in overtime on Tuesday night and although they still lead the Metro, they’re in a huge slump, with just three wins in their last ten games. The Golden Knights are dealing with a bunch of key injuries, but come into tonight’s game on a five game point streak with a 4-0-1 record in that span, coming off a 3-2 win on Long Island on Tuesday. These teams match up pretty closely stat wise. The first game between these teams just a week ago in Vegas was a blowout win for the Knights, winning 5-1 at home. I’d lean the Rangers answer back with a win here tonight at home in MSG to tie the season series, and I’d slightly lean the under, but I’ll stay off this matchup entirely.

Penguins vs. Panthers (7:00)

This matchup isn’t too bad but I really like it from a betting perspective. The Panthers have been a fantastic team and I’m starting to think more and more with each game I watch them play that I think they’re going to be the team coming out of the East. They didn’t just capture magic in a bottle last year as they’ve been playing fantastic hockey on both ends of the ice. After their short losing streak, they’ve now won their last two games in a row, dominating the Preds and Coyotes. The Penguins haven’t been terrible this year, in the tight Wild Card race in the East, but they’ve struggled recently. Coming off a 5-2 loss in Arizona on Monday, they have just one win in their last five games. Florida won the first game between these teams 3-1 at home in December and I like them to win again here on the road tonight. I’ll take the Panthers for a unit, along with half a unit on the puck line. I’d very slightly lean the under, but no way would I bet it.

Avalanche vs. Kings (9:00)

A couple weeks ago this would be a game to get real pumped about, but with how terribly the Kings have played lately, there isn’t much luster to this one for me. The Avalanche have been incredible recently. Coming off a 6-2 win against the Caps where the Nate Dogg got four goals and had bras and thongs getting thrown on the ice, the Avs have won 13 of their last 16 games, playing fantastic hockey on both ends of the ice. The Kings, despite still hanging onto a Wild Card spot, have been awful lately. They have just two wins in their last 14 games, coming off a blown 3-1 lead to lose 5-3 to my Sabres on Wednesday night. These teams split their first two games this season, with a 5-2 Avs win and a 4-1 Kings win. I like Colorado to keep rolling here and with a nice price on them, I’ll take them for 1.5 units along with the puck line for half a unit. I like the over as well on this matchup, which I’ll take at the alt line of 6 for a unit.

Kraken vs. Blues (10:00)

Kind of an interesting matchup here. The Kraken have played themselves into the Wild Card mix in the West, with a really solid run they went on winning nine in a row a few weeks ago. They followed that up with a four game losing streak, but bounced back on Wednesday night, with an easy 6-2 win against the Blackhawks. I still don’t think the Blues are a great team, but they’re right in the Wild Card mix too. They’ve won their last three games in a row, coming off a 4-3 overtime win in overtime against the Canucks on Wednesday. The first game between these teams in St. Louis was very close, with the Blues winning 2-1 in a shootout at home. Both of these teams have struggled offensively this season and I give a solid edge defensively to the Kraken. I’ll take Seattle to win at home for half a unit. I’d lean the under with the offenses for both of these teams, but not enough to bet it with both teams trending over lately. EDIT: I forgot to actually bet this game.
