NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 1/28/24

Third winning day in a row for me on the NHL yesterday, crushing the last big slate before All Star break, going 11-5 to win 2.66 units. Could’ve been even better but the Penguins, Stars (who blew a 4-2 lead with two minutes left in regulation), and Canucks all won in OT when I had them in regulation. Today we have just two Sunday games as the league ramps down for All Star break. Let’s keep winning!

Blues vs. Kings (2:00)

Interesting matchup to get the day going. The Blues are playing pretty good hockey right now, right in the Wild Card mix now, just a point behind the Predators and the Kings. They come into tonight on a four game win streak after their 4-3 come from behind overtime win in Seattle on Friday night. The Kings are still hanging onto their Wild Card spot in the West but they’re in a broken, downwards spiral. They just got blown out 5-1 in Colorado on Friday night (easy wins for me) and have only two wins in their last 15 games, not what you want if you’re a playoff team. LA won the first game between these teams pretty easily earlier this season, with a 5-1 blowout win at home. They were a different team at that point, and although I think they’re far more talented than St. Louis is, and this could be a get right spot for them on the road, I like the value on the Blues as a home dog, and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.

Kraken vs. Blue Jackets (9:00)

Huge mismatch for the late game tonight. The Kraken haven’t played all that great recently, with just one win in their last six games after they went on a nine game win streak to get them in the Wild Card race in the West. They’re coming off a 4-3 overtime loss on Friday night where they blew a 3-1 lead to the Blues, in a game that they outshot St. Louis 36-18. Seattle’s been very good defensively this season with great play in between the pipes by Joey Daccord, but they’ve struggled offensively. The Blue Jackets are a lousy team. Last night they blew a 4-1 lead in their 5-4 overtime loss to the Canucks and they’ve played poorly on both ends of the ice this year. Seattle won the first game between these teams earlier this month 7-4 on the road in Columbus. I like them to win again pretty easily, especially with the Jackets in the second half of a back to back, and I’ll take the Kraken in regulation for a unit. I’d lean the under with the struggles of both defenses, but I’ll just stay off the total here.
