NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 2/9/24

Another solid night for me yesterday on the NHL, going 4-2 to win 2.34 units. Tonight we have just a three game slate, let’s make it a three day win streak going into a giant slate tomorrow!

Wild vs. Penguins (8:00)

This isn’t a great cross conference game to get the night started. The Wild haven’t been good this season, struggling on both ends of the ice. They came out of the All Star break on Wednesday night with a 2-1 win in Chicago in a grind of a game that was a bit more of a sweat than I expected it to be, but still cashed in. The Penguins are in the Wild Card mix in the East, a bit outside of a playoff spot. Their defense and Tristan Jarry’s goaltending has been fantastic this season, but they’ve struggled offensively. In the first game between these teams this year, the Pens got a 4-3 win at home. I like them to win again tonight on the road, but this time in likely a lower scoring game. I’ll take the Pens and the under 6.5 here for half a unit each.

Blackhawks vs. Rangers (8:30)

This is the first of two gigantic mismatches on tonight’s state. The Metro Division leading Rangers are now on a three game win streak, coming out of the All Star break with a 2-1 overtime win against the Avs on Monday and a 3-1 win over the Lightning on Wednesday. The Blackhawks have been one of the worst teams in the NHL all season long, really struggling on both ends of the ice. Coming off a 2-1 loss at home to the Wild to come out of the All Star break, they’re now on a five game losing streak. The Rags won the first game between these teams 4-1 in January at home and I expect them to win at ease again on the road tonight. The prices on this game are really expensive, with the moneyline at almost -300, but I’ll lay the -179 on them to get it done in regulation for 2 units. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet it.

Ducks vs. Oilers (10:00)

Horrible Pacific Division matchup to close out the night. The previous two games between these teams were complete blowouts with the Oilers winning 8-2 at home and then 7-2 on the road, and I expect another similar result here. The Ducks have been terrible on both ends of the ice this season, but went into the All Star break on a four game point streak, winning three of their last four games, none of which were against good teams. The Oilers had their 16 game, record breaking win streak come to an end when they returned from the All Star break on Tuesday, with a 3-1 loss in Vegas. Statistically Edmonton’s been phenomenal on both ends of the ice, with an elite offense and a much improved defense with solid goaltending from Skinner. I love the Oilers to bounce back with a win tonight but similar to the Rangers game, the prices here are quite expensive. I’ll take the Oilers in regulation for 1.5 units and their team total over 3.5 for a unit.
