It’s Super Bowl Sunday but there’s a couple matinee hockey games to pad the bankroll with a bit and get the day started earlier. I pretty much broke even on yesterday’s games, going 7-4 but losing 0.18 units. Let’s bounce back today and keep those winnings rolling into tonight!
Canadiens vs. Blues (1:00)
This matchup isn’t great to get the day started. Both of these cross conference teams had matinee games yesterday. The Habs are coming off a 3-2 loss to the Stars (I split that one) at home yesterday and have struggled on both ends of the ice this season. The Blues are playing solid hockey right now, with six wins in their last seven games, coming back from the All Star break yesterday with a 3-1 win in Buffalo against my Sabres. They haven’t played all that well on either end of the ice, but they’re better than Montreal is. In the first game between these teams in St. Louis, the Blues won 6-3 at home. I expect another win from them here on the road, and I’ll take the Blues for half a unit. I’d slightly lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
Capitals vs. Canucks (1:30)
This is a pretty big mismatch, which I like. The Canucks lead the NHL, tied with the Bruins for first place in the league. They’re coming into today’s game off two losses in a row though, losing in a 4-0 shutout in Boston on Thursday and then a 4-3 overtime loss yesterday in Detroit. Vancouver’s been phenomenal on both ends of the ice this year. The Capitals have struggled recently and haven’t been great on either end of the ice this season. Yesterday afternoon I lost my biggest play of the day on the Bruins, as the Caps ended their six game losing streak with a 3-0 shutout win over the B’s at home. I like things to go back to the status quo in this one, and I’ll take the Canucks to get a win on the road for a unit, boosted up on DraftKings to a nice price. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
