I had a nice mini sweep on the NHL yesterday afternoon, going 2-0 to win 1.5 units to lead into the Super Bowl. Tonight we have a small four game slate, let’s stack the wins!
Devils vs. Kraken (7:00)
This cross conference matchup hasn’t been great to start off the slate tonight with both of these teams struggling. In a double shutout on Saturday, the Devils lost 1-0 in overtime in Carolina, and dealing with injuries they have just one win in their last five games. Jersey’s offense has been very good all season, but their defense has been terrible. The Kraken are struggling as well, with just one win in their last four games and only two in in their last nine, coming off a 3-2 loss in Philly on Saturday. They play the complete opposite style of hockey than the Devils do, with very good defense and goaltending, but a very struggling offense. The first game between these teams this year in Seattle was a grind, with the Devils winning 2-1 on the road. I’d slightly lean the defense of the Kraken lead to a win here on the road to tie up the season series, but not enough to bet it. I’d also slightly lean the under, but the best play on this game is none at all, so I’m laying off this game entirely.
Rangers vs. Flames (7:00)
Although I wouldn’t have expected it to be, this is actually a pretty good matchup tonight with the way the Flames have played recently. They come into tonight’s game on a four game win streak, coming off a 5-2 win against the Isles on Long Island on Saturday. On the season they haven’t been around league average on both ends of the ice. They head to NY to face the Metro Division leading Rangers at MSG. The Rags, who had a gigantic swing for me on Friday night, as they blew a 3-1 lead with less than 6.5 minutes left in regulation to the Blackhawks, giving up the game tying goal to blow my huge regulation bet with just 1:02 left before Mika Zibanejad got the Rangers the win in overtime anyway. That win extended New York’s win streak to four in a row after a bit of a slump. They’ve played solid hockey on both ends of the ice all season. The Rangers won the first game between these teams with a 3-1 win on the road in October. I expect them to win again here at home and I’ll take them for a unit tonight. I’d slightly lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Flyers vs. Coyotes (7:00)
This matchup isn’t all that entertaining. The Flyers are on a solid run right now, coming into tonight’s game on a three game win streak since returning from the All Star break, coming off a 3-2 win against the Kraken on Saturday (sweat of a winner on my under in that game) after they went into the break on a five game losing streak. The Coyotes have really struggled recently. Coming off a 5-4 overtime loss in Nashville on Saturday, they’re on a five game losing streak with just four wins in their last 15 games. Both of these teams have struggled offensively, but the Flyers have a clear advantage defensively. Philly won the first game between these cross conference teams pretty easily on the road, winning 4-1. I like them to win again tonight at home and I’ll take them for half a unit, boosted to pretty much even money on DraftKings. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet on it.
Golden Knights vs. Wild (10:00)
In my eyes this is a pretty big Western Conference mismatch, but the price doesn’t show that as much as I expected it to. The Golden Knights, despite dealing with some significant injuries, have played great lately. Coming off a 3-2 win in Arizona on Thursday, the defending Cup champs have a 7-1-1 record in their last nine games. They’ve played great on both ends of the ice, especially defensively. The Wild haven’t been terrible lately but they’re not a great team this season and will more than likely miss the playoffs. They come into tonight’s game with two wins in a row, after beating the Penguins 3-2 on Friday night and have picked up five wins in their last seven games. Statistically they’ve struggled on both ends of the ice this year. I expected the price on this game to be much more expensive than it is, and I’ll jump on that value with 1.5 units on the Golden Knights. I like the under, but at 5.5, I don’t think its worth betting.
Bonus parlay: I have a free bet on my account for .2 units, which I’m going to just throw on a parlay of all four favorites.
