Florida blowing a 2-0 third period lead and needing OT and then winning anyway screwed me last night, so I had an annoying 3-4 day, losing 2.97 units on the NHL. Tonight we have a pretty lousy five game slate. Let’s grind out a bounce back night!
Canadiens vs. Sabres (7:00)
This is a pretty lousy Atlantic Division matchup tonight since both of these teams stink. This will be the fourth and final game between these teams. The Habs won the first game 3-1 in Buffalo, followed it up with another 3-2 win on the road in a shootout, and then lost 6-1 in a great game by the Sabres. My Sabres are coming off a very disappointing matinee loss to the Ducks at home on Saturday afternoon, dominating the game, yet still losing 4-3 with a few mistakes in the second period. Pathetic way to lose. The Canadiens are struggling too. Coming off a 4-3 loss at home to the Caps on Saturday, they have just three wins in their last eleven games. Both of these teams stink statistically, with the Sabres having a slight edge on both ends of the ice. I’d slightly lean Montreal wins at home here and the over, but not enough to bet either. I’ll lay off this game entirely. Let’s Go Buffalo.
Blackhawks vs. Flyers (7:30)
This might be the most boring matchup I’ve broken down all season. The Blackhawks have been brutal, the worst team in the NHL this season. Coming off a 6-3 blowout loss in Carolina on Monday, they have just one win in their last ten games. Chicago, even with Bedard back in the lineup, have been horrible on both ends of the ice. The Flyers have been a solid team this season, in third place in the Metro Division. They’ve played great defense all year and keep winning despite their offensive struggles. Philly’s coming off two losses in a row after they went on a four game win streak, losing 6-3 outdoors to the Devils in the Stadium Series at MetLife on Saturday after losing 4-3 in overtime in Toronto on Thursday. This should be an easy win for the Flyers tonight on the road and I’ll take them for a unit. I’d lean the under but not enough to bet it.
Oilers vs. Bruins (10:00)
AWESOME cross conference matchup tonight. The Oilers have been fantastic this season. They got an easy 6-3 win in Arizona on Monday night, their second win in a row, having lost just three of their last 23 games. The Bruins were on a bit of a slump, but ended their four game losing streak with a big 4-3 shootout win at home against Dallas on Monday afternoon. They still are neck and neck with Florida to lead the Atlantic Division. Both of these teams have been fantastic on both ends of the ice, with a defensive edge to the B’s and an offensive edge to McDavid and the Oilers. I’d lean Edmonton wins this one at home, and would lean the over, but not enough to bet either. Sit back and enjoy one of the best cross conference games of the year!
Coyotes vs. Maple Leafs (10:00)
This is a pretty huge mismatch tonight as Auston Matthews heads home to Arizona with his surging Leafs to face the Coyotes, who are in a huge slump right now at the Mullett. Arizona’s on a brutal ten game losing streak, coming off a 6-3 loss at home to the Oilers on Monday. They’ve struggled on both ends of the ice, especially offensively. The Leafs are playing solid hockey right now, coming into tonight’s game on a four game win streak with eight wins in their last ten games, coming off a 4-2 win in St. Louis on Monday (winner for me). Toronto’s played great offensively all season but have been inconsistent on the back end. I expect the Leafs to win here on the road and I’ll take them in regulation for 1.5 units. I’ll also take Auston Matthews to score (I can’t believe I’m laying -150 on an anytime goal scorer, but it should cash). I’d lean the over on the game but not enough to bet it.
Ducks vs. Blue Jackets (10:00)
Brutal game to close out the night between two of the worst teams in the NHL. The Ducks have been terrible, but come into tonight’s game off a 4-3 win against my Sabres on the road on Monday afternoon, capitalizing on a few mistakes in the second period and relying on the goaltending of John Gibson to get the win in a game that they had no business in winning. The Blue Jackets are in last place in the East, and come into tonight’s game in the second half of a back to back on the road, after getting crushed 5-1 by the Kings in LA last night (winner to close out my night). Both of these teams have been trash on both ends of the ice with a slight edge to the Ducks defensively and an edge to the Jackets offensively. The first game between these teams needed overtime with the Ducks winning 3-2 on the road. With Columbus in the second half of a back to back, I’d lean the Jackets and the over, but no way I’m betting this lousy game. I’ll stay off it completely.
