Coming off a pathetic loss at home to the Ducks on Saturday, tonight the Sabres bounced back, grinding out a solid 3-2 win in Montreal.
The Habs got on the board first tonight as Wi-Fi ripped a shot from the top of the circle with a bomb past UPL short side with 7:19 left in the first period. Not an awful period for the Sabres, as we were outshot 9-8.
The Sabres tied up the game at 1-1 4:20 into the second, with Zemgus Girgensons tipping in a shot from Henri Jokiharju to put Buffalo on the board. Montreal took the lead back with 13:25 left in the second period, as right off the face-off, Struble took kind of a lousy shot and it got redirected off Peyton Krebs and into the net with Luukkonen not really having any chance at stopping the puck. Buffalo answered right back though less than three minutes later, as Jeff Skinner got the rebound off Dylan Cozen’s quick shot and put it in the net on the power play on a nice three on two rush, to knot the game up 2-2. We took our first lead of the game, 3-2 with 1:52 left in the second, shorthanded on a great rush by Alex Tuch with a nice finish in front. Fun period.
After a scoreless third period, with some decent play by both teams, the Sabres grinded out the win to close out the season series tied up, with the road team winning all four games between us and Montreal this season.
FINAL: Sabres 3, Canadiens 2
Decent game for the Sabres to bounce back from Saturday’s pathetic loss. Tonight’s game was pretty evenly played, with both teams getting 18 scoring chances. We were outshot 31-23, but outplayed Montreal by an expected goal rate of 3.02-2.29. The difference tonight came in special teams as we killed off all four on the Canadiens power play chances, scored the game winner shorthanded, and scored on one of our three chances. Good win.
Let’s Go Buffalo.
