I am so fucking sick of losing on the NHL. I loved yesterday’s slate and got crushed, going 2-6 to lose 6.02 unit. It’s unreal with how much effort I put into this shit and still can’t win, despite having a winning record on the year. Tonight we have a four game slate before a ton of games tomorrow. Let’s see how this goes.
Capitals vs. Senators (7:00)
This is such a boring Eastern Conference matchup to me, between two teams that both aren’t great. They’re both playing decent right now though. The Caps are on the outside looking in on a Wild Card spot and have picked up at least a point in their last four games, coming off a 3-2 overtime loss to the Panthers on the road on Saturday to end a three game win streak. Washington’s defense has been decent tis season, but their offense has really struggled all year. The Senators have been one of the worst teams in the East, but are on a four game point streak as well. Coming off their 4-3 shootout win against the Golden Knights on Saturday, they’ve gone 7-2-1 in their last ten games. The first game between these teams back in October was a 6-1 blowout win for Ottawa at home. I feel like this one is a complete toss up on both the side and the total and I’ll stay off it entirely.
Stars vs. Islanders (8:00)
This cross conference matchup isn’t great. Although they’ve been in a slump recently, the Stars lead the Central Division, coming off a 2-1 win in Carolina on Saturday night that ended a four game losing streak for Dallas. They’ve played great on both ends of the ice on the season, especially offensively. The Islanders, coming off a 4-2 loss at home against the Lightning on Saturday, have really struggled recently. They’re outside of the playoffs and have just one win in their last six games, and only four in their last 16, having struggled on both ends of the ice. The first game between these teams on Long Island in January was close, needing overtime for the Isles to win 3-2 at home. I like Dallas to answer back with a win at home, which I’ll take for half a unit. I’d lean the under but not enough to bet it.
Oilers vs. Kings (9:30)
I’m expecting this to be a really fun Pacific Division matchup between these two playoff teams, both tied in points for the third spot in the Pacific and first Wild Card spot. The Oilers have been fantastic this year after their lousy start to the season, but coming off a 6-3 loss at home in the Battle of Alberta on Saturday night, they’re on a three game losing streak for the first time since mid December before they went on a 16 game heater. It was also the first time all season that they’ve lost three in a row at home. On the year Edmonton’s been fantastic on both ends of the ice. The Kings are playing really well right now too, with five wins in their last six games, coming off a 3-2 shootout win against the Ducks on Saturday (loss for me since I had them in regulation). LA’s been good on both ends of the ice, especially on the back end, as they’ve been fantastic, making up for their inconsistent offense at times. These teams split their first two games in LA, with the Oilers winning 3-2 in a shootout on the road, and the Kings answering back with a 4-0 shutout earlier this month. I’d lean the Oilers win this game at home here to end this losing streak, but not enough to bet it. I’d slightly lean the over as well but not enough to have enough of an edge for action there either. I’ll stay off this game. Should be awesome.
Kraken vs. Bruins (10:00)
Boring cross conference matchup to close out the night. The Bruins are the far better team here. They’re tied with the Rangers to lead the Eastern Conference, and coming off a 3-2 overtime loss in Vancouver on Saturday night in a great game, they’re a point back from the Canucks to be the NHL leaders. Boston’s picked up at least a point in each of their last five games, but they haven’t quite gotten it done, with just two wins in their last eight games. The Kraken are likely missing the playoffs, quite a ways back from the Wild Card in the West, but they’ve played decent in this last stretch, with a 3-1-1 record in their last five games. Although Seattle’s offense has been horrendous, their defense has been very good this season. The Kraken pulled off a nice upset a week and a half ago on the road in Boston, winning 4-1 on the road. I like the B’s to answer back here and get their revenge with a win of their own on the road in Seattle, and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the under with two great defenses here, but not quite enough to bet it at 5.5.
