NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 2/28/24

My NHL picks were pretty solid on yesterday’s big slate, going 5-3, but with my biggest play losing in overtime, I took a 0.47 unit loss. Tonight we have just two games before another huge slate tomorrow and I break them both down and give my picks.

Rangers vs. Blue Jackets (7:00)

This is quite the lousy Metro Division matchup in the second half of a home and home between the worst and best team in the Division. Columbus actually pulled off their second upset of the season against the Rags on Saturday, winning 4-2 at home. These teams split their first two games this season, each winning at home. The Jackets pulled off the upset in the first week of the season, winning 5-3 and then the Rangers answered back in November with a 4-3 shootout win at home. The Rangers have been fantastic this season, leading the division. That loss in Columbus ended a ten game win streak for them. New York’s played fantastic hockey on both ends of the ice. The Blue Jackets have been awful this season on both ends of the ice. They’re the worst team in the East, coming off a 2-1 loss at home to the Sabres on Friday night. The Rangers are the far better team here and I expect them to tie the season series at home tonight. The moneyline is too expensive, but I’ll take the Rags in regulation for a unit, which with a boost gets it to +132 for me on BetRivers, I’d still take it at the regular -152 price). I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.

Oilers vs. Blues (8:30)

This is a pretty lousy Western Conference matchup tonight. The Oilers have been fantastic this season and are coming off a big 4-2 win at home against the Kings on Monday, ending their first three game losing streak of the year. Edmonton’s been great on both ends of the ice after their poor start to the year. The Blues have fallen six points back now from the second Wild Card spot in the West, and they’re in a pretty big slump right now. Coming into tonight’s game in the second half of a back to back after a 4-2 loss in Winnipeg last night (win for me), they have just one win in their last five games. St. Louis hasn’t played great on either end of the ice. The Blues did win the first game between these teams this season though, winning 6-3 at home a few weeks ago. I love Edmonton to win here and I’ll load up on them a few ways, liking the over as well. For a unit each, I’ll take the Oilers in regulation, the Oilers team total over 3.5, and the over on the game.

Game Bets

1u Rangers in regulation (+132)

1u Oilers in regulation (-175)

1u Oilers TT over 3.5 (-165)

1u Oilers/Blues over 6.5 (-106)

Futures

4u Vegas Golden Knights – Stanley Cup Champions (+1000)

Record: 454-412-11 (-78.59 units)
