NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 3/8/24

I pretty much broke even on last night’s NHL slate, going 4-3 (losing 0.11 units). Tonight we have a late start for a four game slate, with some nice betting opportunities. Let’s take advantage of it and win!

Avalanche vs. Wild (9:00)

This Central Division matchup isn’t great. The Avalanche have been playing great hockey lately, in a playoff spot in the Central, coming off a big 7-2 win against the Red Wings on Wednesday. They’re one of the best offensive teams in the NHL, and added Casey Mittelstadt from the Sabres this week. The Wild aren’t awful but they’re missing playoffs this year and haven’t been all that great on either end of the ice. They’re in the second half of a back to back tonight, coming off an easy 5-2 win in Arizona (win for me) last night. The Avs won the first game between these teams 3-2 on the road in Minnesota back in November, and especially with the Wild in the second half of a back to back, I like Colorado to win this one at home again quite a bit. I’ll take them in regulation for half a unit. I’d slightly lean the under, but not enough to bet it.

Coyotes vs. Red Wings (9:00)

This is a pretty huge mismatch in this cross conference matchup, and the price on it makes no sense to me. The Red Wings are on a three game losing streak, coming off a 7-2 loss in Colorado on Wednesday, but have been very good, in a Wild Card spot in the East. Their offense has been incredible, while their defense has been very inconsistent. The Coyotes blow, and they’re in the second half of a back to back tonight, coming off a 5-2 loss last night to the Wild. This should be a nice get right spot for the Red Wings. The price is far too cheap here, and I’ll take Detroit for half a unit along with their team total over 3.5 for half a unit. I also considered their puck line but I’ll just go with those two plays. I’d lean the over on the game but I’ll just stick with the Wings side of it.

Ducks vs. Stars (10:00)

Giant mismatch here in the West tonight despite the first two games between these teams being closer than expected, but the Stars won both, winning 3-2 on the road in October and then 4-3 in overtime at home. Dallas, who’s on a three game win streak are the far better team here on both ends of the ice. Although the Ducks have won three of their last four games, they still stink. I like the Stars to win this one by more than just a goal and I’ll take them in regulation for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.

Kraken vs. Jets (10:00)

Pretty interesting matchup in the West here. Both of these teams are playing really well and are in the second half of a home and home, with the Kraken getting the win in the first game between them on Tuesday night with the Jets getting robbed by Daccord in the closing seconds of the game to lose 4-3 at home. Winnipeg’s still the better team here and I like them to answer back on the road in Seattle, and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the under, but I’ll stay off it here.
