The Sabres kept it rolling tonight, extending their win streak to three straight games, with a dominant 4-0 shutout win against the Islanders to put them just three points back from the Isles for the second Wild Card spot.

The first period was scoreless but the Sabres played quite well, with Sorokin keeping it scoreless. Buffalo outshot the Isles 13-5 and were the far better team on both ends of the ice, generating some really good chances but not letting the Isles get much going.

The Sabres got on the board first just 4:28 into the second period, with a nicely placed shot down low by Victor Olofsson (who was in the bay next to me at the golf dome on Monday) short side on Sorokin to put Buffalo up 1-0 on the power play. Dylan Cozens made it 2-0 a few minutes later, with 11:45 left in the second, ripping in the rebound. The floodgates opened and just 1:36 later, Zach Benson tipped in a a shot by Henri Jokiharju. The Isles challenged it for goaltender interference, it was determined to be a good goal! Another really solid period as we got on the board and built a solid lead while once again being the better team throughout.

With 4:54 left in the game, Zach Benson finished the game with an empty net goal to go up 4-0.

Really a great game. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen picked up his fifth shutout of the year, making 21 saves on every shot he faced as we outshot the Isles 37-21, out chanced them 22-12, and dominated them by an expected goal rate of 3.91-1.18. Along with that, we killed off all four of the Isles power plays.

Such a huge win. Those points in this game and against Detroit on Tuesday were big. Just three points out from a playoff spot. Although I have some doubts with the tough schedule coming up, just gotta keep winning. It’s fun to get hope again. Don’t break my heart again boys.
