Great bounce back Sunday for me yesterday, sweeping the NHL board, going 4-0 to win 2.5 units with several huge third periods. Tonight we have a pretty lousy, just two game slate. I have just one play tonight, let’s win on it!
Flames vs. Capitals (8:30)
This matchup isn’t a great one, but I could see this being a pretty solid game to start off this night with these teams separated by just two points in the standings. The first game between these cross conference teams was a close one, with the Capitals winning 3-2 in a shootout at home in the first week of the season. The Flames are outside of the playoff picture in the West, coming off two wins in a row, beating the Habs 5-2 and the Knights 4-1 in their last two games. The Caps, despite not being great most of the season, are right in the Wild Card race in the East, tied with the Islanders and just a point back from the Red Wings for the second Wild Card spot. They’re coming off two wins out West, shocking the Canucks with a 2-1 win on Saturday after beating the Kraken 2-1 on Thursday. I’d lean the Flames are the better team here, especially offensively and get the win on home ice, and I’d slightly lean the under in this matchup, but I’ll lay off this game entirely, there’s just no value in betting on it.
Kraken vs. Sabres (10:00)
Interesting matchup out West for the late game for my Sabres as we look to bounce back from a bad 4-1 loss in Detroit on Saturday afternoon, where we looked like complete duds in the second period in a key game. We’re on the outside of the Wild Card spot in the East now by five points, chasing the Red Wings, Islanders, and Capitals. UPL’s still been fantastic in goal, but the offense isn’t getting much going this year. The Kraken have played similar hockey, with a really lousy offense but a solid defense with good goaltending. Seattle did win the first game between these teams, 5-2 in Buffalo in January. I’d lean my Sabres bounce back with a win on the road here, but not enough to bet them. I do like the under though, expecting this to be a low scoring grind of a game, and I’ll take it for half a unit.
