I got too cute on the Avs/Wild game, but really solid night for me on the NHL yesterday going 5-1 to win 1.62 units, my second profitable day in a row. Tonight we have a six game slate, let’s make it a three day win streak!
Sabres vs. Flyers (7:00)
This isn’t the best matchup but its quite the interesting game in the East to get the night going. My Sabres aren’t technically eliminated but with all of these teams right tin the mix, we’re not making playings. They are coming into tonight’s game with three wins in our last five games, coming off a solid 6-2 win at home against the Capitals in Jeff Skinner’s 1,000th game on Tuesday night. The Flyers are on a big skid right now, and they went from being comfortably in third place in the Metro all season to in real danger of missing the playoffs pretty quickly. There’s now five teams within two points of those two playoff spots (four of them in the Metro). Philly comes into tonight on a five game losing streak after a 4-3 overtime loss to the Islanders in a huge game on Monday night. These teams split their first two games, both high scoring wins on the road, with the Sabres winning 5-2 in Philly in November and then the Flyers answering back with a 5-1 win in Buffalo two nights later. I’d lean Philly, who’s desperate for every point ends their losing streak tonight with a win on the road in Buffalo, and I’d lean the over slightly, but not enough to bet either. I’ll lay off this game entirely.
Red Wings vs. Rangers (7:00)
This should be a really solid Eastern Conference matchup between these two teams which has some big playoff implications. The Red Wings, coming off a 4-2 win in Tampa on Monday that ended a four game losing streak for them, are tied with the Capitals and a point back from the Isles for the second Wild Card spot in the East. The Rangers, who are the current President’s Trophy leaders, are on fire lately. Coming off a 4-3 win at home against the Devils on Wednesday, they’ve won six of their last seven games and have just six losses in their last 28. The Rags won both previous games between these teams, winning 5-3 at home and 3-2 at home, both back in November. I like them to complete the season sweep on the road here and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
Hurricanes vs. Capitals (7:00)
Solid Metro Division matchup here, another game with a ton of playoff implications. The Canes already clinched their spot in the playoffs and are very comfortably in second place in the division. They’re playing fantastic hockey right now, and although they’re coming off a 4-1 loss at home to the Bruins last night, they have a 13-4-1 record in their last 18 games. The Capitals are coming into tonight on a four game losing streak after a 4-1 loss at home to their rival Penguins last night, but they’re still just a point back from the Flyers and Islanders for third in the Metro and the second Wild Card in the East. Washington is 2-1 this season in the games between these teams with a 2-1 shootout win on the road in December, losing 6-2 at home in January, and then answering back with a 7-6 win at home in another shootout a couple weeks ago. The Hurricanes are the better team here and I’d lean they win tonight at home to even the season series, and I’d lean the under, but with both of these teams in the second half of back to backs and the Caps desperate for points, I’ll stay off this game entirely, especially with the Carolina moneyline as high as -270. Should be fun to watch.
Oilers vs. Avalanche (9:00)
Great playoff matchup here between these two Western Conference teams and I’m expecting this to be a spectacular McDavid vs. MacKinnon show in Edmonton tonight. The first game between these teams last month was a little bit of a dud, needing overtime for the Avs to win 3-2 on the road. The Oilers got blown out 5-0 on Wednesday night in Dallas for their second loss in a row, and have a three point lead over the Knights for second in the Pacific. The Avs are in the second half of a back to back tonight after a 5-2 win in Minnesota last night that I got way too cute betting on, their second win in their last three games, as they are three points back from the Stars and three points ahead of the Jets in second place in the Metro. I’d lean the Oilers win this one at home but not enough to touch it. I do like the over though, which I’ll take for half a unit.
Coyotes vs. Golden Knights (10:00)
This Western Conference matchup isn’t great. The Coyotes, coming off a 2-1 loss to the Canucks on Wednesday, haven’t been great this season, eliminated from the playoffs. Although they did get a nice little bump last night with new insane arena plans to keep them in Arizona that I’m still skeptical of becoming a reality. The Golden Knights are playing great right now. They’re pretty healthy, and coming off a 6-3 win against the Canucks on Tuesday, they’ve now won three in a row and are on a seven game point streak with a 9-2-1 record in their last twelve games. They have a point lead over the Kings for the third spot in the Pacific and they’re just three points back from the Oilers for home ice in the first round. These teams split their first two games with the Yotes winning 2-0 in Vegas in November and the Knights answering back with a 3-2 win in the dirty desert in February. I like the Golden Knights to win again tonight on the road and I’ll take them for a unit. I’d lean the over, but I’ll just stick with Vegas in this one.
Ducks vs. Kraken (10:00)
Pretty lousy matchup in the Pacific Division. Both of these teams have had lousy season and they’re already eliminated from the playoffs. The Ducks are one of the worst teams in the league and come into tonight’s game off a 5-3 win in Calgary on Tuesday where they ended a five game losing streak with just their second win in their last 14 games. The Kraken are also a bad team, but significantly better than Anaheim. Coming off a 5-2 loss to the Kings (1-1 on that one for me with the under losing after going into the third with a 3-0 score), Seattle’s won three of their last five games, two of those wins against these Ducks, 4-2 and 4-0 at home after a 3-2 win on the road back in December, but those three recent wins came after an eight game losing streak. I like the Kraken to complete the season sweep here tonight on the road and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
