Awesome Sunday for me on the NHL yesterday, going 7-1 to win 2.8 units, an OT loss for the Caps away from sweeping the board. Tonight going up against the National Championship we have just two games before a loaded slate tomorrow. Let’s crush it!
Maple Leafs vs. Penguins (7:00)
This should be a great game between two teams playing great hockey right now. The Leafs have their ticket punched to the playoffs, currently in third place in the Atlantic and playing for seeding. They’re playing well right now, with four wins in their last five games, coming off a 4-2 win in Montreal on Saturday night. The Penguins have gone from being completely out of the picture to now right in the mix to make the playoffs, a point back from the Red Wings for the second Wild Card in the East, and two points back from the Isles for third in the Metro. They’re on a four game win streak and eight game point streak to get themselves back into it, coming off a 5-4 win over the Lightning at home on Saturday. These teams split their first two games, with the Pens winning 3-2 at home in November and the Leafs answered back with a 7-0 shutout win at home in December. I’d lean Toronto wins this one as they’re the better team in this matchup, but not enough to bet on it. I do like the over though, which I’ll take for half a unit.
Canucks vs. Golden Knights (10:00)
Solid matchup in the Pacific Division between these two playoff teams. The Canucks still lead the division with a three point lead over the Oilers. They haven’t played great lately though, with just two wins in their last six games, coming off a 6-3 loss in LA on Saturday night. The Golden Knights haven’t punched their ticket to the playoffs yet, but they’re pretty much locked in, and they’re just playing for seeding with the Kings and the Predators for third in the Pacific and the two Wild Cards in the West. Vegas has played great lately, having a seven game point streak come to an end on Friday night in shocking fashion, as they blew a 4-1 third period lead, giving up six unanswered goals to the Coyotes for a 7-4 loss in Arizona. Even with that loss, they still have a very good 9-3-1 record in their last 13 games. The Knights are 2-1 against Vancouver this season, winning 4-1 on the road in November, losing 3-1 at home last month, and then winning 6-3 at home a week ago. I like Vegas to win this one on the road and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet it at 5.5.
