I had a little bit of a losing night yesterday on the NHL Playoffs, going 0-2 on the Stars game (which concerns me) and the Oilers losing in OT, going 3-4 on the night to lose 0.88 units. Still not bad. Tonight we have just two games in the East. Let’s bounce back!
I’ll likely look into ways to partially hedge that Vegas/Dallas series, but I have till late Saturday night to figure that out.
Game 3 – Lightning vs. Panthers (7:00)
Game 2 of the Battle of Florida on Tuesday night was an incredible goaltending battle on both sides with Bobrovsky and Vasilevskiy making fantastic saves to take a 2-2 tie into overtime before the Panthers took a 2-0 series lead with Carter Verhaeghe’s game winner 2:59 into overtime. Vasy kept the Bolts in that game, as Florida outshot Tampa 37-23. I feel like Florida completely has this series in control. They’ve been the way more dominant team and I think this is done in five, at most six games. I’d lean the Lightning win this one at home to tighten the series a bit, but I’m not betting it. I do like the under, which I’ll take for half a unit.
Game 3 – Islanders vs. Hurricanes (7:30)
After a 3-1 win in Game 1 where Carolina didn’t play great, the Canes dominated Game 2 but somehow the Islanders had a 3-0 lead early in the second period. That was until the Isles completely collapsed, giving up the game-tying goal with 2:15 left in regulation and then nine seconds later, Jordan Martinook gave the Hurricanes the lead before Guentzel capped it off with an empty netter for a 5-3 win, giving Carolina a 2-0 series lead. Despite getting outshot 39-12 in Game 2, the Islanders had the potential to be up 2-0 in this series heading to Long Island. I don’t see a way that the Isles could come back from that loss in Game 2. They might win a game at home, but this series isn’t going longer than five games. This could even be sweep and I’m going right back to Carolina here. I feel like they have to win a game convincingly. I’ll take the moneyline for 1.5 units and the puck line for half a unit. I’d lean the under, but I’m not touching it.
