Last night with the Canes losing in 2OT in the longest game of the NHL playoffs this year, I ended the night going 1-2, losing 0.76 units. Let’s bounce back tonight with Game 2 of Panthers vs. Bruins and the Oilers vs. Canucks series beginning!
Game 2 – Panthers vs. Bruins (7:30)
I was pretty shocked with the results of Game 1 of this series on Monday night. After the Panthers scored the first goal of the game, the Bruins rattled off five straight goals unanswered to win it 5-1 on the road in a game that was much more competitive than the final score showed. The Panthers outshot Boston 39-29, with Swayman once again playing incredible in goal with a .974 save percentage with 38 saves. I didn’t think Bobrovsky was bad for Florida, despite giving up four goals, as they were all pretty much perfect shots by the depth of the Bruins. I’m not going to really overthink that game and although Swayman scares me, I still think Florida’s the way better team in this series. I still like the Panthers to win it and they have to win Game 1 tonight at home. I’ll take them for 1.5 units. I like the under again too, just like I did in Game 1, and I’ll take it for half a unit.
Game 1 – Canucks vs. Oilers (10:00)
As I broke down in my series preview blog in depth, I don’t expect this Pacific Division series between the Canucks and the Oilers to be all that great in this Canadian matchup, but it could end up being fun. Both of these teams have had fantastic regular season, but I feel like they’re on different trajectories coming into this second round series. The Oilers made easy work of the Kings, advancing in five games and the Canucks defeated the Predators in a strange six game series. I think we can throw out the results of the regular season series between these teams and although I do see the Canucks defense being a bit of a problem for Edmonton, I fully expect the Oilers to walk through this series in five, or maybe six games. The price on this series is expensive at -260, but I’ll take the Oilers to win the series in six games or less for 2.5 units. Expecting them to win the series, I like the Oilers to win Game 1 on the road and at a cheaper price than expected, I’ll take them for a unit in what I expect to be a grind of a game. I’ll stay off the total in Game 1 and see how this series plays out.
