Really solid night for me yesterday on the NHL with the Oilers OT win, going 4-1 to win 4.02 units, my best night of the second round. Tonight we have Game 4 as the Rags try to sweep again and Game 3 of Avs/Stars shifting to Colorado tied up. Let’s win again!
Game 4 – Hurricanes vs. Rangers (7:00)
The Rangers took a commanding 3-0 series lead on Thursday night and they can close it out for their second series sweep in a row. I thought Carolina was again the better team in Game 3, just as they were in Game 2, outshooting the Rangers 47-25, but ultimately for the second game in a row, the Rags won in overtime. This time on Artemi Panarin’s goal 1:43 into OT. The last time the Rangers won the President’s Trophy and their first seven playoff games, they went on to win the Cup in 1994, and it feels like that could happen again this season. This series feels very reminiscent of last year, where the Canes played well, yet still got swept by the Panthers. I do think the Hurricanes should win this game and avoid getting swept, but I don’t love it. And if they do with, New York’s ending this in Game 5 in MSG on Monday night. This series is over, I don’t see any way that Carolina can rattle off four wins in a row against the Rangers. I’m set to lose 3 units on my Canes Cup future and most likely my bet on the the series to go over 5.5 games. I’ll hedge that a bit tonight with 3 units on the Rangers team total over 2.5. My ideal scenario in this game is for the Rags to score three and lose to keep my series bet alive to fully hedge out of in Game 5. I’d lean the over, here but not enough to bet it.
Game 3 – Avalanche vs. Stars (10:00)
After an impressive come from behind win for the Avalanche in Game 1, erasing a 3-0 deficit on the road to open this series with a 4-3 overtime win, it almost looked like Dallas was going to choke another lead away again in a must win Game 2 at home. The Stars almost blew a 4-0 lead with a tense end of the game before the empty netter from Roope Hintz sealed off the game with a 5-3 win for Dallas to tie the series up 1-1 going to Colorado for Game 3 tonight. Even though they fell short, I was still very impressed with how the Avs mounted the comeback. They’re winning this series. I like the Avalanche to take the series lead back tonight at home and I’ll take them for a unit, along with their team total over 3.5 at plus money for a unit as well. I really like the over again in this game, which has hit in both previous games of this series, and I’ll take it for 1.5 units.
