NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 5/14/24

Last night’s NHL games were a disaster, as I went 1-2-1 including the series bet I hedged out of that won, losing 6.42 units. Awful. Tonight the Panthers could end Boston’s season and we have a huge, key game in Edmonton. Gotta bounce back here.

Game 5 – Panthers vs. Bruins (7:00)

The Panthers took a stranglehold on this series with a 3-2 win on the road in Boston in Game 4, to go up 3-1 in the series and put the Bruins on the brink of elimination tonight. Florida erased a 2-0 first period deficit with their comeback win for the first game of the series to not go over and not be a blowout. Although they needed the comeback and just won by a goal, they still dominated play in that game, outshooting the B’s 41-18. The Panthers are ending this series tonight at home. I’ll double down on my series bet here and take them in regulation for 2 units, along with their team total for a unit. I like the over again as well, which I’ll go right back to for a unit. In the four games in this series, Matthew Tkachuk has generated 5, 6, 0 (in a game he had 15 PIMs) and 7 shots on goal. I’ll take him to have over 3.5 shots on goal for a unit. That number also cashed in four of the five games against Tampa in the first round.

Game 4 – Oilers vs. Canucks (9:30)

Going into this series, even though I thought this could be a six game series, I didn’t see a way for the Canucks to have a 2-1 series lead already going into Game 4. That looks horrendous for my series bet for the Oilers to win it in six or less, but they’re going to have to do it like that now. I don’t mind my play on them to win the series though. One thing I was right about though with Edmonton going into the playoffs was I thought the goaltending and defense would be the reason why there’s not a chance this team is winning the Stanley Cup. Stuart Skinner has been the worst statistically goaltender in Oilers playoff history and tonight the Oilers will be starting Cal Pickard in goal instead for his first playoffs start. Edmonton came up short in Game 3, taking a 4-3 loss at home, hitting a ton of posts. I may have underestimated Vancouver a bit in this series, but like Leon said in the post game, hitting a bunch of posts isn’t good goaltending. Although this is a must win game for Edmonton and the Oilers should win, I think its insane that the line on them is -200. I don’t think Pickard is good whatsoever (although you can’t get worse than Skinner), and the path to the Oilers winning this game is to just keep scoring. My first consideration on this game was the Canucks team total, which I’ll take for a unit, but the play I love tonight is the over, which I’ll take for 3 units.
