Unbelievable that yet another night what should’ve happened didn’t in my disaster of the second round of the NHL Playoffs. With the Stars 5-3 loss at home, I went 0-3, losing 3.56 units. Tonight we have two huge games, let’s get some wins!!
Game 6 – Hurricanes vs. Rangers (7:00)
The Rangers looked like they had this series locked up with a 3-0 lead, despite Carolina playing decent hockey in that span, but the Canes the last two games stepped up and made this a solid series, now at 3-2, looking to take it to Game 7 with a win at home tonight. In Game 5, the Rags held a 1-0 lead in the third period, but Carolina came storming back with four third period goals on their way to a 4-1 win on the road in MSG, outshooting New York 28-21. I feel like this game is a toss up at this point. Going into the series I thought the Canes would win it as they’re my pick to win the Eastern Conference, but it looked like they were completely dead going into Game 4. I have the potential to lose four units on my future for Carolina if they lose, so I’m going to partially hedge that again, and I’ll take the Rangers team total over 2.5 for 3 units again (boosted on Fanduel to +142). Ideally the Rangers will score 3 in a loss. I’d lean the over on the game, but not enough to bet on it.
Game 5 – Canucks vs. Oilers (10:00)
I thought going into this series that the Oilers were going to roll through the Canucks. That hasn’t happened though as this is tied up at 2-2 going back to Vancouver for Game 5 tonight. Edmonton made a goaltending change for Game 4, putting in Cal Pickard after the horrible start of the series for Stuart Skinner. Pickard played great in Game 4 and the end of that game was insane. After holding a 2-0 lead going into the third period, the Oilers blew that, giving up the game tying goal with 1:41 left in regulation to Dakota Joshua. I thought the game would end up going to overtime, but Evan Bouchard scored the game winner with 39 seconds left for an Oilers 3-2 win to tie the series. I have the to win it and win it in six games. While I’m pretty comfortable with them winning it, I wouldn’t be shocked if Vancouver takes this to seven games. I’d lean the Oilers win this game, but I won’t double down on them and just let it ride. I considered hedging a bit with the Canucks team total, but I think the best move is just staying off it. I do like the over in this game though, which I’ll take the alternate 5.5 line for 1.5 units.
