Solid Game 1 for me of the Stanley Cup Finals on Saturday night, winning a unit as Bobrovsky led the Panthers to a 3-0 shutout win at home despite the Oilers being the better team. Tonight’s Game 2 in Florida. Let’s win again!
Game 2 – Panthers vs. Oilers (8:00)
The Oilers were easily the better team through Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Saturday night, but Sergei Bobrovsky stole the show in goal, leading the Panthers to a 3-0 shutout win at home in a game that they were outplayed in. That was the second series in a row that Bob opened with a shutout, after he got his P’s a 3-0 win in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Rangers as well. The win is great news for the Panthers (and my series bet) as historically the winner of Game 1 in the Cup Finals goes on to lift Lord Stanley 75% of the time. Carter Verhaeghe opened the scoring 3:59 into the game on a great rush and despite being outshot 14-4 in the first period, it was a 1-0 lead for Florida at the first intermission. On the first shot of the second period, Evan Rodrigues made it 2-0 Panthers just 2:16 into the second and Eetu Luostarinen scored on the empty net to seal it with 4.4 seconds left as the rats hit the ice. On the game the Oilers outshot Florida 32-18 and dominated by an expected goal rate of 5.61-1.88. I thought the Panthers played lousy and still were able to get the win. I’d lean the Panthers play better in Game 2 tonight to get the win, but not enough to bet on them with how well Edmonton played. I can see McDavid taking over and getting the win. He had six shots on goal in Game 1 and couldn’t solve Bob. I’ll take him to get over 3.5 shots on goal tonight for half a unit. The play I really like tonight is the under. Going into this series, I liked the under and stayed off it in Game 1. Bobrovsky was incredible, and Florida didn’t generate a whole lot, with both goals that Skinner let in not being his fault. I’ll jump on the under tonight for a unit. I looked at Bobrovsky to win the Conn Smythe, but I don’t love the odds for it at +210 when I already have Florida to win the Cup. Let’s get a great game tonight!
